Fn + F2 key in 901 is used to enable/disable wireless. I also have a 901 and what i did was installing the kernel from arrary.org and eee-control from synaptic, it is working with that.

The keys are not working for me are Fn + F8 and Fn + F9 (decrease and raise volume) is there a way to make them work?

8.10 is sort of outdated, i use version 10 and i havent encountered any difficulties on my eeepc 1000h so far except for the wireless not working but i managed with the help of the comunity to get it working

Now when running Statler live on my eee 900 I have no sound and wifi doesen't seam to work...

I'll create a thread for this issues on the Statler develop forum since this thread is a bit old.

Welcome! I would recommend trying a newer release... 8.10 has reached its "end of life" and is no longer supported. Newer releases will have newer audio/video codecs, better hardware support, etc.

9.04 is the current Ubuntu-based stable release (supported through Oct. 2010), and "Statler" is the alpha-testing version of the upcoming Debian-based release. I personally find that video performance is better with Statler than with previous versions, if you are comfortable dealing with the challenges of alpha software it is my recommendation.

(edit) ps if the jerky playback is specifically with streaming media from the web, try downloading it first then playing it from your hard drive with VLC. I find that Youtube video, for example, is a little jerky on both of my netbooks (due to the weak hardware specs I presume), but I can play the video no problem if I download it first.

1. use ext2 for partitioning

2. use the noatime option (i think in /etc/fstab not sure you'll find it when you search)

Being a huge Gnome fan, I've gnomified (and blue-ified too) my CrunchBang 8.10 on my eeepc 701, and added a feature I've found in Ubuntu Netbook Remix: Maximus, a window-manager daemon that enables you to run an application full screen.

Now all the screen is used,at its maximum, and there's just the essential, no more titlebars... Every inch is important on a eeepc's screen!  :D

you can do this in openbox without installing additional other stuff.

add/ alter this at the bottom of rc.xml.

    <application name="*">
      <decor>no</decor>
      <maximized>yes</maximized>

//this means all windows that open will not have the decoration at the top and will me maximized. have fun.

however, i did notice one small thing.  i used to be able to press the power button and have it turn off, after installing the scripts it does nothing.  i have installed the scripts on ubuntu before and i know that they fiddle around with the powerbutton's settings.  i am unsure/unable to get the gui that came with the scripts to load and also dont see an icon by the clock like i did with plain ubuntu.  any one have any suggestions?

finally a little detail, it seems that the default volume icon on the taskbar in openbox does not match up with the systems volume, any way i can correct this?
