I know you said you don't use them but if like me you use VLC Media PLayer then you can map the media keys via the VLC preferences, no need to edit any configs.
They will only work within VLC of course the volunme keys still need to be added your .rc file for them to work system wide.
]]>Comments: Everything works out of the box with no end user tweaking of any kind. After updating to the latest kernel NDSIwrapper was used to keep wifi working with that bastard Broadcom. Media keys (volume control and all that) don't work but only because I never used them and am uninterested in tweaking my keymapping. Did I mention that the default #! look complements the grey palm-rest of the Mini 10v eerily well?

Everything I care about seems to work out of box, Wireless detects my AP but I haven't actually used it, the Intel gigabit ethernet is recognized but again not yet used, Sound not working as far as I can tell at the moment (maybe getting directed to the HDMI port or the S-PIDF).
System is light and fast, looking forward to tinkering with it.
]]>Other laptop for serving as tinkering testbed is IBM T40 1.6GHz Pentium-M, 160GB hd, 512Mb ddr, intel wired and wireless network. I also run irssi and mpd on it.
]]>Had to open Windows-7 for a few minutes, to make a System Restore Disk for it and to shrink the partitions.
Put my 2 favorite OS-distros on it: Crunchbang (Debian/Openbox) and Archbang (Arch/Fluxbox)
]]>Everything running fine from the start. Poor performance with the integrated SIS Mirage graphic. Switch to Nvidia, and after updating drivers situation was much better.
