ahhh, this seems to be the thread i was looking for. :)
watching this development keenly.

+1 on tint2 becoming defacto in a future #! release.

it IS lightweight nippy tho right? (ignore me... yet to test)

I find the text configuration is pretty simple right now. Still, if anyone wishes for a gui, here is tintwizard. Though, i haven't tested it yet.

No, right-clicking does not work... I suppose it's a matter of taste whether you like Tint2 or LXPanel or something completely different. Here are instructions for configuring Tint2:

tint2 doesn't have a GUI for configuration. All of its options can be changed in a text file.

The advantage is that it is lighter (I think) and that its appearance is very customizable.

I must be missing something here. I installed tint2 from the repository in #! 9.04, but it doesn't seem to do much. Right-clicking on it doesn't bring up any dialogue boxes for adding applets or icons. What advantage does it have over lxpanel?

Tint2 is the only tray/task-bar setup I actually like, I prefer its sleek and simple concept and how easy it is to customize. I think it complements Conky and end-user customization.

I have now updated the 9.04.xx repository with r118 packages. :)

When will the tint2 package be updated in the CrunchbangLinux repo? It's still revision 70 and it has the bug with the non-transparent icons. Please update the package to at least r114 as stated above, thanks.

The system tray bug seems to be fixed now, with r114. You can get it via Killeroid's PPA. Nice!!

A couple of screenshots to clarify an issue with system tray icons. First, a full view of my bizarre metro desktop:

Here you see how Sonata's right-click menu leaves artifacts (is that the right term?) on the system tray:

I hope the bug gets fixed, it would be nice to see the new tint2 in #!. I will add a link to this at the developer's bug tracking site.

Is there any way to get multiple rows of elements in tint2? I'd like my tint2 panel to fit in a 100x200'ish piece of desktop estate, so a "one row" panel isn't really an option.
