Hm, is there any (beginner-friendly way.) to integrate the keyboard commands/conky/playing with another server running mpd?

I've got a media-server running mpd on my network.

Your audio output value in .mpdconf or .mpd/mpdconf should look thus:

audio_output {
        type                    "alsa"
        name                    "My ALSA Device"
        options                 "dev=dmixer"
        device                  "plug:dmix"     # optional
}

Does "a simple mpc toggle solves these issues" mean that you have to either pause or mute MPD?

I've seen similar reports in this very forum of MPD Bogarting the sound card with ALSA; there's a fair chance someone will post a fix very soon...perhaps even before I post this. In fact, it may have been mentioned earlier in this thread...

Can anyone tell me how can I "multiplex" the audio resources when playing music with MPD?

(i.e I cannot make Skype calls (Audio callback error)/flash videos are automatically muted, vlc is automatically muted when MPD is playing something ).

This is not a big problem as a simple mpc toggle solves these issues, however this still bothers me. Can anyone help me with that?

Edith says: I am using alsa. Just in case if it's relevant.

I just wanted to comment that I had this problem as well. I was trying to start mpd from autostart.sh and it wouldn't work because nm-applet hadn't established a network connection through WiFi yet. I confirmed this by seeing the error in ~/.xsession_error

The fix was the add the following to /etc/hosts (as per URL from Milozzy):
::1 localhost.localdomain localhost

Hope this info helps someone else!

Well, both of your suggestion does not work, but after reading the link that I post above, I try to disable ipv6 on my system and...now all works!!

It's definitely a mpd bug related to ipv6, I think...

BTW, I give you all the other information anyway, just to be sure.

~$ cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1    localhost
127.0.1.1    crunchbang

and yes, the 3 clients are on the same system.

Try

bind_to_address "127.0.0.1"

in .mpdconf

that lo is up
and yes, you should include the line

bind_to_address "localhost"

Can you show the outpt of

sudo cat /etc/hosts
sudo cat /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf

Oh boy, I think I've claimed victory too soon.

In fact, if I comment out bind_to_address "localhost" in ~/.mdpconf, GMPC and ARIO can no longer connect to MPD; however MPD is up and running and Sonata still work.
I really disappointed...I found this bug report http://www.musicpd.org/mantis/view.php?id=3195 and the problem seems to be similar...
There they say that it was a bug of versions previous to 0.16 and I am actually using 0.15 of Squeeze...but, if this the case, why am I the only here with this strange problem?
