Chilling some Canadian style pilsner, Labatt's - btw, the Budwiser in Dominican Republic is brewed there, also, in the DR, they have a good local brew El Presidente' for the Tropical Conditions :)

Exactly ethrg, when I was in France for a bit, they loved, and I mean loved, budweiser. But budweiser in france, at least when I was there, was brewed in the czech republic, and tasted much different to me.

Now to answer the thread question, Im drinking, or will be drinking later rather, Extra Gold Lager(yes coors still makes it, and yes it tastes the same :p). Too many years in the marines gave me a taste for beer on a budget.

That is so very true! Not just of beer but most things. There is a massive difference in taste, quality, even style in export-beer versus that which is intended for the domestic market. Too often people think it's just a question of packaging, marketing, or the age it is at the point of sale, but it's hardly even the same product. Even the brands that are heavily touted in the foreign market are different.

Take the ubiquitous Spaten; the stuff they'll sell me from the display in the German beer section of the Wegmans up the road doesn't even look the same as what I was having with my lunch in Munich this past December. You know, a bottle of freakin' Pabst goes for 40 dollars in China, and it's not because the Chinese can't taste the piss, it's because Chinese Pabst is a totally different beer (still not worth the 40 bucks tough).

As I live somewhere with a LOT of microbreweries, I pretty much stick to the local stuffs.

Sierra Nevada "Old Chico" (aka Crystal Wheat) has been a staple of mine ever since I lived there. It's one of the few beers I buy on a somewhat regular basis.

Rogue Brewery's Rogue Creamery 75th Anniversary Ale is some of the best beer I've ever had. Just finished a bottle of that yesterday.

Local microbrewery/bar called Hopmonk has their Tavern Ale that I just discovered and really enjoyed.

For slightly less local, Old Rasputin is excellent, as is Dogfish Head's Palo Santo Marron.

For mass production, Hoegardden(sp?) is the *only* hef I've ever had that has coriander and doesn't end up tasting like dishsoap (I'm looking at you Blue Moon and Shock Top).

I'm sure Europe has some decent beers, but being on the West Coast just about everything European I get my hands on is skunky. Seriously, you guys are supposed to be the beer experts, why do you export your beer in clear/green bottles?

I always think it's funny when people talk about beer like it's a drink, gin is a drink. Beer is just watery bread.

A man after my own heart. I used to drink muddy beers all the time until I moved out to NC. Most people out here seem to just drink bud light all the time, so it's hard to find decent beer without paying a fortune. Right now I'm just drinking some Yuengling lager.
