The first release candidate for the <a href="http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic/219/crunchbang-linux-81001rc1-lite-edition/">&quot;Lite&quot; edition is now available</a>. The 64bit edition will hopefully arrive in due course. 			<content type="html"><![CDATA[<p>I&#039;d like a 64-bit version more than the Lite version, but I&#039;m just looking for an excuse to get into 64-bit linux the next time I do a Linux install on a machine. Crunchbang would make it a twofer, I&#039;m interested in trying it out off of a VM. (Still like having it as a VM - it&#039;s installed on the family Vista computer as my own little sanctuary when I fullscreen it. Well, it would be if I could get the resolution working right, but it&#039;s still nice.)</p>]]></content>

			<content type="html"><![CDATA[<p>This is a tough one for me. On my old machine (a 1.8Ghz/512MB laptop), I installed 8.04 lite. It was hawesome, the most perfectest distro I&#039;ve used yet. Minimal, but featured.</p><p>But now, I have a 64 bit intrepid machine (dual 2Ghz/2GB). Which makes me want a 64bit #!.</p><p>So I&#039;m pretty torn.&nbsp; I suppose I&#039;d like to see the 64 bit version first--mostly b/c it just opens up more machines to #!, whereas the Lite version just makes things a bit easier.</p><p>Tough choice ;)</p>]]></content>

What you are doing is really appreciated.</p><p>I used the 8.04.02 lite edition and it was the best thing I ever installed on my machine. My only problem with it was that when removing an app it said that it was a part of the cruncbang meta-package. There isn&#039;t a good upgrade path from CrunchBang 8.04 to 8.10. <br />However, it is perhaps worth checking out 8.04 lite as a live CD or virtualbox session to satisfy your curiosity. :)</p><p>One thing to keep in mind as we discuss CrunchBang &quot;full&quot; vs. &quot;lite&quot; is that the full version is only about 2gb--that is pretty light by today&#039;s standards.</p><p>I hope Philip won&#039;t mind discussion of other distros on here. ;) A really fun distro that redefines the word &quot;lite&quot; is SliTaz--the live CD is about 25mb! Kino, 2 terminal emulators, gimp, inkscape) but keeping things like abiword, one word processor, and one music client?</p><p>If so, it might be interesting to look for even more lightweight alternatives to the default applications, and perhaps even completely remove the gnome deps. We could use transmission instead of deluge (no pygtk), mplayer instead of totem (almost no deps there), quod libet instead of rhythmbox (no gnome) and even something like wicd instead of networkmanager. I don&#039;t know what to do about abiword though, because it has in the last years gone from pure GTK+ to requiring all kinds of gnome deps.</p><p>What would you all want? Would you like simply &quot;full&quot; #! without the fluff, or even lighter apps?</p>]]></content>
