For anyone who is unaware, I originally set-up this forum to help separate Ubuntu and Debian based CrunchBang questions/suggestions. Now that the last Ubuntu based CrunchBang has reached end of life, I think it would be a good time to make this forum read only and encourage everyone to post their Statler topics in one of the main forums.

Thank you very much to everybody who has contributed to this forum. 865 topics with 8,375 posts is no small feat! You guys rock! :)

As for the seedboxes, I opted to use rtorrent on CrunchBang’s existing file servers. I have set-up the rtorrent instances to run as services with GNU Screen. I have not fully tested the set-up yet, but I think I have it all configured correctly — I guess I will found out when the next Statler images are ready, which should be within a couple of days.

Wikipad on Statler?

Afternoon - it is here, anyway :)

Has any one managed to get Wikipad (http://wikidpad.sourceforge.net/#download) to run successfully on Staler?

Looks like the later versions are needing python 2.8 and python 2.6 components are installed in Statler. I'm scared of nuking my carefully crafted #! install by bulling about in the proverbial china shop...

Maybe someone in the #! community has already looked at this and has some ideas?

My need is to have a cross-platform desktop (personal) wiki which is why I was looking at Wikipad (Wikipad on windoze is not crippled like zim on windoze).
I don't need the complicated hoops of Wikipad on Linux, so I looked further afield and found Wiki On A Stick. Obviously this java-based software works from your USB stickdrive, but Dropbox is my friend. All you need is a "modern" browser. Hah, the WOAS software is less than half a meg in size - just unzip to your location. Simple, sweet and instant personal wiki. Here's the site: http://stickwiki.sourceforge.net/

[SOLVED] Error upgrading crunchbang-configs from 0.0.2 to 0.0.4

I'll start off by saying this is almost definitely my fault. I'm still trying to get the hang of setting up my sources.list file correctly. That being said, I get the following error when trying to upgrade:

It looks like both crunchbang-configs and bash need the file /etc/skel/.profile, right? But I'm not really sure how to resolve it...

Statler ate my GRUB!

This is weird.

I have 2 #! Statler installs on the same computer, one for testing and one for everyday use.

First I installed on /dev/sda1.

Then I installed on /dev/sda2. So far so good.

Yesterday I upgraded the original install on /dev/sda1. When I rebooted, something really weird happened... somehow the update process "stole" GRUB back from /dev/sda2!

Now I know how to fix this, no big deal, but... does anyone know what happened? Is this a known bug with GRUB2?

[Resolved. Mostly.] Horizontal scrolling will not auto start.

I cannot get horizontal scrolling to remain enabled after a shutdown/reboot. I have to run

synclient HorizEdgeScroll=1

every time I log in. I've added it to my autostart.sh but no dice.

Hi - just wondering if anyone had an idea as to the projected release of "Statler"? It depends on squeeze, right? I'm on 9.04 right now and pretty happy. Maybe I should just go for the Alpha 2 release but I like stability and really love my 9.04.

Minor issue after updating

thought I would move this to a seperate thread. I am getting multiple copies of the autorun dialog and file manager when I mount the VirtualBox guest additions .iso. here's a screenshot of the six that opened in the panel.

I just installed Crunchbang 10a2 on my ancient laptop (transmeta CPU, 512MB ram, mobile radeon video) and it works perfectly. Well done!

The only problem I've noticed is that it set me up with a GB keyboard even though I chose US in the install (unless I made a mistake, not likely). And when I run "sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup," which works fine in 9.04, it skips all the keyboard choice questions and goes straight to the font questions.

Maybe this is just a function of Statler still being an alpha. But I thought you might want to know.

resizing in virtualbox causes terminals to close

Hello,

I'm running crunchbang as a virtualbox guest on a Windows 7 host. When I resize the screen or switch to seamless mode my terminals close. It's annoying to have your terminals close unexpectedly. Is there a fix for this?

Every time i boot i have to go threw a disc check.
It was fine before i dual booted with Joliecloud .
It boots Jolie with no issues,But when i go to #! it says this.

dev sda1 was not cleanly unmounted check forced

I updated grub,But still same issue.
I went into etc/fstab , But im not to sure what im looking at.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

[SOLVED] Laptop boot hangs at starting udev

Hi,

Having sporadic hang-ups with my Lenovo T60 laptop running Statler Alpha2.
The system is up-to-date (I regularly do an apt-get update and apt-get upgrade).

At boot it sometimes stops at this screen (reproduced from a scribbled note as screen dumps are unavailable):

Starting udev
boot in runlevel S
/lib/live/config.sh=not found
dispatcher=udevd
plugevents...done
populated...

And I have to hard reset.
Occasionally this happens twice and then I get a normal boot. Days may go by before a re-occurrence - I wonder if any damage occurs to the installation...

The list is quite about this particular error, so I guess I'm the first? - there is this udev thread:

IMPORTANT: tint2 "systray" breakage

I do not like breaking things, but there is going to be a problem for existing Statler tint2 users when the latest tint2 package is included in the Statler repository. I am writing this as a kind of preemptive warning, so hopefully people will be aware of the issue.

Basically, the tint2 config file which shipped with the alpha releases does not contain a `panel_items` variable. Without this variable, the systray will not appear when tint2 is run after the new tint2 package is installed.

The `panel_items` variable should look something like:

panel_items = TSC

The new config file to be shipped with Statler follows, you may or may not want to update your config file after the new package is installed. The new package will be in the Statler repository soon.

Wont boot 'Kernal' (acpi=off worked before)

Hi all

I've upgraded to Statler A2 but after installing it wont boot as will get stuck on a kernel. I'm on a Viglen MPC and using ACPI=off pnpbios=off worked on the other versions but not now. When booting via live CD though it does go through however.

Hi all,

I'm trying to install VirtualBox 3.2 into an up-to-date Statler, but get this from synaptic:

virtualbox-3.2:
  Depends: libqtcore4 (>=4:4.7.0~beta1) but 4:4.6.3-4 is to be installed
  Depends: libqtgui4 (>=4:4.7.0~beta1) but 4:4.6.3-4 is to be installed

I have installed the "Maverick" repository and key from the VB site.
I get the same dependancy call whether I choose "Always prefer the highest version" or "Prefer versions from statler" under the Distribution tab.

Would I harm the system by manually installing these versions - providing I find them?
