Hmmm bit of a strange one, am wanting to update my laptop to the 64 bit persuasion to match my desktop. Have tried booting from USB key and cutting a CD, but both methods fail when trying to find the files on the CD as there is no recognised CD on the box. I've looked in /dev/disk/by-id and indeed there is nothing USB like showing there when I switch to the console in the installer.

Have just downloaded the latest image and used dd to create the USB image, but still no luck. The strange thing is I obviously managed to get this working from the USB key when I first installed Crunchbang on the laptop removing the previous Windows install which the makers had thoughtfully installed.

So my question is how do I get the installer to pickup the files on the USB key or on the USB CD ? Not too worried which version I install as will move to Wheezy as soon as anyway. The latest image reverting back to GDM suited me, so this is what I have been trying.

If the USB key or CD don't get mounted by the installer, how can I get at them ? Laptop is a Samsung 900X if that makes any odds.

Cheers

Enoch

Hey guys; I'm running CB in Virtualbox (latest 4.1.8) and updated CB's kernel to 3.2.x which borked my guest additions. Tried reinstalling them, etc, to no avail.
In the end, I just commented out the latest kernel in grub and run 2.6.x as a temporary fix; just wondering if anyone else has run into this. Normally I'd just be patient and wait for VBox to catch up with the latest kernel, but this is Debian we're talking about, lol, not exactly bleeding edge :P I figure this kernel has been out for long enough for VBox to catch up, so maybe it's just me.

I've started several times in recovery mode to do this and have seen various KVM console fonts. I've now returned to one of my previous setups, but the console font is different now. It's a small font, but is bolder and blocky, and I don't think I've seen it before. How do I set it to use a much finer, more "spidery" small font which looks better?

Hi,
I wanted to install CrunchBang GNU/Linux on my netbook. Currently my netbook has Kubuntu. But the problem with Kubuntu is that KDE is very slow for a 1 GB RAM and 1.6 GHz Atom processor.
I have / and /home on a separate partition. My root is ext4 and /home is btrfs. All my files are in the /home directory. So is it possible to point the /home to the existing directory with the same username, without formating the contents in the home directory?
The home directory contains hidden kde settings which I can remove. But what are the settings that CrunchBang or OpenBox will put in the home directory so that I don't accidentally delete them?
Or is there any other preferred way of doing? Like install the whole OS into a 20 GB ext4 partition and mount the previous /home directory as a new mount point?
Thanks.
