Tried #! a while back and didn't think it was for me, read a write up by "Larry the Free Software Guy" and gave it a better shot this time. I really like it and it likes my netbook. I'm liking it more and more. Thanks for the great job, will donate when I can.

About three years ago when 8.10 was out, my better half's xp decided to BSOD and start eating itself.
I was toying with Mandrake and Ubuntu at the time as i was fed up with Vista. Didn't like either one.
Using some such search terms as "fix windows with linux", a link brought me to a site which told me to use #! to get in and save her files.
I D/L'd and burnt. Ran live and thought "what the hell is this shite?". After figuring out how to work openbox, with lotsa help from reading the forums i saved her stuff. She happy. I got laid. Even learned some stuff along they way. Wiped Vista. Installed #!.
I have been following the #! forums ever since. So to make a short story long.
Thanks to ethrg, i joined the forum. His drunken escapade made me realize that i might one day actually have something to contribute.
(i am also glad i don't use a mouse).

And i know you guys, so now i'm on this side none of these:

My wife does these full time so i get lots (it's her shirt)
But i'm not against a hot veal on a kaiser with a four-pack of Grolsh on the side

I have used linux now for several years, starting with RedHat advancing to Debian detouring to Ubuntu and now I have arriving at Crunchbang.
I love it.

Everything worked out off the box, but bluetooth. Although I find it right not to install bluetooth, I would suggest to give an option to install it in the script that runs the first time you login.

All in all a great Distro.

Hi all,

As you can see I've been using #! for quite a while, and some of you may remember me.

Unfortunately I've been stuck using Windows for some key software for too long. Luckily I no longer need it (a benefit of quitting that job? haha), so I'm back to crunchbang and all it's minimal dark not-windows goodness.

Downloading the latest release as we speak, I look forward to being more active on this forum once again :)

And wow, lot's of screenshot threads to catch up on!

Well, my story is...

I was just a plain windows user, non-expert, happy with watching movies and accessing the internet
Until I was called to help out at my relative's company (not related to computers, software, etc)

My relative gave me orders to save company budget by installing linux on ancient computers instead of windows
and
I installed #! on them, which works WELL to my relief. Now I need to install stuff and tweak this & that.

My English might sound awkward and I'm new to some of the social protocol ( Like Cheers!! )
but I hope you understand:cool:

As in the title, I'm totally new to linux.
I only know basic commands such as apt-get, ln, dpkg, tar, ./configure & make, man etc.
only by following how-tos (Don't know anything in-depth, anything related to the linux system)
Don't have enough integrity to learn linux from books:D
just trying to learn stuff that I need

Anyways, I've got some work to do, and maybe my introduction was too long :)

After more than one year of using crunchbang almost daily, I finally got myself in the mood to sign up and post my introduction...
First of all crunchbang is - at least for me - by far the best distro out there in terms of speed and ease of use. I had some problems, especially with the latest versions but all solved by now. I am currently running crunchbang on my workstation and laptop, wich appear to be faster than ever.
Crunchbang and me was love at first sight. I have been evaluating quite a lot of distros over the past years and finally found my sanctuary. Feel free to ask me (almost) anything and I will be pleased to get back to you asap (in english, french or german).

Hello All -

I recently succeeded in getting #! fully up & running on a late-90's vintage Toshiba Portege 3110...!
old Pentium processor (P3 ithink...) 6GB hdd 125MB memory - a cute little unit, but it originally ran Win98 and it was SLOOOW....

Absolutely awesome that the #! install worked with the stupid pcmcia cd-rom drive...!
The only other "lightweight" distro I'd ever got to work was xubuntu, but could never figure out how to get the networking - modem & pcmcia network card - running, though it should be said I didn't try as hard as I could have...

So I have a couple other newer laptops running dual-boot Windows/Linux. Those are currently running ubuntu & mint but I like #! so much I just might set it up on them...

One issue that's come up on my Acer laptop - the #! live CD / install doesn't work. I think it has to do with a graphics problem that's given me headaches installing Win7. I'm working on that one...

I just recently installed #! onto an Acer Netbook (721-3988) and I have to say I'm loving it so far. It replaced my Linux Mint OS and I'm loving the speed I get now using the lightweight Openbox manager!

hi, i am known as leo or tehtrb.

i've used #! before, 9.04 or 9.10 it was i believe. i have tried many distros before, i have tried many others since then - recommend pure:dyne for audio/multimedia.

i recently came back and it feels great. while there have been some very enjoyable changes, the all-powerful yet simple core thought of the system has not changed a bit. now i am back and, i have to repeat myself, it just feels great.

THANK YOU FOR AN AWESOME DISTRO !!!!! and for your time on this.

do not expect much activity from me, but give yourselves a pat in the back and enjoy the rare respect of a man who does not think much of the world. this is an excellent job. #! ftw, +1
