Please continue to use thumbnails (please try to avoid the large thumbnail imgur.com code) linking to the larger image to help those of us with slow connections. An example of the code needed is below. Most image hosting sites will automatically generate this for you as well. I've been using postimage.org lately which does a nice job.

Retro Theme (suggestions please)

I'm working on a retro computer theme...I used Gimp to pixelize my wallpaper and convert it to a 256 color palette to give it a sort of 16-bit look, and I'm using an Amiga-style Topaz font...I'm not sure what I should do with the panel, though, and I can't find a good dark icon theme that would fit what I'm going for. Any suggestions?

Wallpaper experimentation

I mentioned I'd been toying with making my own wallpapers in the screenshot thread - figured I'd might as well post them here!

The general style of them came to be after I was playing around with SymbOS - I figured I'd might as well see how well it applied to other things. I think it's a nice effect, personally.

1280x800 // 1440x900 // 1920x1080 // DA link

1280x800 // 1440x900 // 1920x1080 // 1920x1200 // DA link

1024x600 // 1024x768 // 1280x800 // 1280x1024 // 1440x900 // 1680x1050 // 1920x1080 // 1920x1200 // DA link
(1680x1050 and 1024x600 use smaller "pixels" - this is due to either strange vertical resolutions or the base image otherwise just being too small. I'm debating using higher resolutions anyway, however...)

or better, i modified the original #! slim theme and i changed the background image... size of the BG is 1920*1080... and on my pc works fine..

what do you think?

OK, I will be the first to admit that I am not an artist -- heck, I don't even play one on TV. But I was goofing off this afternoon while waiting for some stories to come to the news desk and I found a Fozzie Bear version of the California state flag.

So . . . I thought, "You know, CrunchBang would fit in here nicely." So I made a CrunchBang Republic flag that parodies the California flag.

1) Find a good image hosting website like Omploader (it's "good" because it doesn't have popup adds and other annoyances).

2) Take a screenshot using either the Print Screen key on your keyboard or the CLI command Scrot (example usage: $ scrot -cd 10 mypicture.jpg

3) Go to your chosen image hosting website and upload the image. If you used Print Screen the picture is saved in ~/images , if you used scrot command the picture is saved in your base user directory /home/username.

After uploading you will get links to that file on the image hosting site. For omploader it will be the bottom most text (BBCode:):

Copy that text and paste it "as is" in your message on the forum. It will display a thumbnail:

If you need to edit your picture before you upload, let's say you only want to display a portion of your screenshot, load the image in Gimp and use the selection tool, select the area and use Image>Crop to Selection.

Final note: Print Screen will save the image in PNG format, scrot will save it in the format you gave as the image file extension, in the above example of scrot it will save in JPG.
