Topic: Installing #! on MiniNote 2133

Has anyone tried this yet?

I downloaded the Lite Version and am trying to boot into the live session, doing vanilla version just left me with a black screen but shut down after I slid the power button. So like Ubuntu, I tried doing the xforcevesa boot option but left me with the same black screen.

What should I do?

Re: Installing #! on MiniNote 2133

Hi,
Did you tried going to a CLI session? with CTRL+ALT+F2?

I didn't try that, but I also wouldn't know what to do once I was at the CLI?

I tried typing that at the boot selection screen but no go.

I know the MiniNote needs this really lame via drivers, I think that's the issue.

Type:

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Are you sure the mini Edition Live CD comes with the driver you need?

Re: Installing #! on MiniNote 2133

I can't get into a CLI, my only option is to add boot options before I press enter after select to boot from the USB drive with #! on it. I repeated the same steps with the full version instead of the lite version and got the same results. To force vesa drivers all I have to do is type xforcevesa right? That's what it says to do?

Anyway, any help would be appreciated, I really want something lightweight on my MiniNote!

Thank you.

Sorry, I could not help you, and yes it seems you are right about xforcevesa

Re: Installing #! on MiniNote 2133

I'm buying a 2133/KX869AT tomorrow and I have plans to install #! on it.

Maybe we can help each other on the way wink

If it works for you first try, I'm definitely going to have to ship mine back. Sometimes it just restarts for no apparent reason, which I find bizarre. Have the new bios and everything. Can't remember what the last tech said it might be. I think he/she recommended that I use it in safe mode constantly (when in XP) and see if it restarts then, if not it's not their problem!

For all that I've read the new bios (F05, correct?) is somewhat problematic for Intrepid. Downgrading to F04 is usually recommended.

Re: Installing #! on MiniNote 2133

Yeah the new bios is F.05, but the random restarting problems I should mention happen in both XP and Ubuntu so not sure what to think of that.

Thanks for the links, I'm going to downgrade back to F.04 and see what happens.

Re: Installing #! on MiniNote 2133

Used these links to try and downgrade my bios to F.04 but after formatting the flash drive I put it in the MiniNote 2133 and it just said that the disk was unrecognizable or something.

Links here for instructions and disk/usb creator for F.04.

Re: Installing #! on MiniNote 2133

I booted the 8.10.02 SDE LiveCD from a USB stick using xforcevesa without any glitch, and everything worked fine. But when I tried to install the OS I got stuck on the partitioning stage. I get a blank partition table -- nothing shows up, as if I don't have a hard disk. Weird.

edit: Tried repartioning the hdd using Parted Magic via USB stick. Success! Now the installation is going through.

(My firmware version is F.02)

Re: Installing #! on MiniNote 2133

Update: everything is working, with the exception of the internal mic.

Re: Installing #! on MiniNote 2133

That is really bizarre man, the trick is to flash to F.04 I found and then Crunchbang loaded right up. To be honest I wasn't totally blown away by Crunchbang and not sure if the distro is for me.

I did just get a HP Tx2604ca which is basically one of the newer non multitouch laptop/tablets so I was thinking about shipping my 2133 home to my family with Ubuntu on it or something.

Anyway though, glad to see you got it up and running. I really do wish I had waited and gotten a MiniNote with an Atom processor instead sad

I had the same experience you mentioned earlier. I downloaded the sp40310.exe from HP to downgrade my
bios from 05 to 04. I ran it on a Win XP box, which seemed to work ok. When I try and boot the memory stick
on the HP 2133, it reports "System disk invalid", which I take to mean that it is not bootable.

Have you managed to get round this problem?

Geoff

I have now borrowed a USB CD/DVD drive.
On my Win XP box I burned the ISO from the HP download sp40310.exe
onto a CD, using InfraRecorder.
The 2133 booted cleanly from the USB CD/DVD drive and installed
F.04 as the bios.

Oh I know what the problem was! Is your flash drive bigger than 1 gig? I was trying to use a 4 gig Lexar but then read that you have to use something 1 gig or smaller!

Yes, I can confirm that I was using a 4GB memory stick, from SanDisk, so that would fit in with
your report. I haven't got a small stick to try for confirmation.

Thank you
