Re: Your favorite movie?

My fav movie of all times is Hellraiser, That movie is super cool

Re: Your favorite movie?

+1 for Blade Runner, and Fong Sai Yuk [early Jet Li]

Re: Your favorite movie?

My fave films - The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption and Back to the Future trilogy.  Corenominal will testify that I can watch the same film over and over again (much to his chagrin sometimes!)

I also like a good zombie film, just so I can hear Philip (corenominal) keep saying "Brains" in his zombie voice - makes me laugh every time lol

How can women DO that!??!

My ex used to drive me crazy with that. She'd never bother changing whatever disc was in the DVD player, so it was the same movie a thousand times, or the same disc of friends, etc, etc

With PAX, are you talking about K-PAX with Kevin Spacey? If so, not my cup of tea. Duval in a bunny costume tongue Donnie Darko is going to be a classic.

Yes, I meant "K-PAX". About Duval. You lost me there. Robert duval wasn't in that movie. You mean the character in Donnie Darko, Frank, who's in a bunny costume?

Yes, Donnie Darko is going to be a classic. smile

James Duval not Robert Duvall. They aren't related. You did mention Robert in THX. My bad for the confusion. BTW, happy Zombie Bunny Day!

Re: Your favorite movie?

My favourites are: Jackie Brown, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (which I can watch again and again and again...), State and main, The Man Who Fell to Earth, Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon, Panic in Needlepark, Serpico... and X-Men movies and newer Batmans and well I don't really love them but I have to say I enjoy watching - but not too often because I tend to search "mistakes" - Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Oh and I almost forgot 007 - Licence to Kill, Lost in Translation and Royal Tennenbaums.

And I have to add any film by Aki Kaurismäki!

Re: Your favorite movie?

Hard to choose one movie, how about:

Last of the Mohicans ("Just stay alive, I'll find you..." + best movie theme tune of all time)
Heat (do not have anything in your life you cannot walk away from the moment you feel the heat around the corner..)
Black Hawk Down ("We just lost the initiative...")
LOTR Trilogy (I think you'll find it's MY precious...)
Bourne Trilogy ("Get some sleep Pamela, you look tired...")
The Motorcycle Diaries (how did they not kill themselves on that old wreck??)
Volver (Cruz as the sexiest housewife/mum EVER)
The Green Mile (anyone else want to kick Percy's teeth in?)
Downfall (grim and gripping)
The Shawshank Redemption (sticking it to The Man)

...I could probably list a top 20 if you want to broaden it a bit from one! big_smile

Re: Your favorite movie?

This thread started with a request to limit responses to two movies.  You can see how well we follow directions lol.

Best Coen Movie:  Raising Arizona

Best Gangster Movie:  Godfather II

Best Yul Bryner Movie:  The Magnificent Seven

Favorite New Comedy Actor:  Seth Rogan

The War Movie Still Fires Me Up:  Patton

Oh, Donnie Darko is already a classic.  Have you seen that there is a sequel soon to be released?

... then he turned to us and said, "See ya later, crocodile!"

Re: Your favorite movie?

"The Kingdom", ("Riget") by Lars von Trier, the ultimate hospital film/tv-mini series, you will never end up in a hospital after this one..............

You should really see The Darjeeling Limited (also by Wes Anderson) if you haven't done that already.

Also, the Monty Python films, Meaning of Life, Life of Brian and Monty Python and the Holy Grail is very funny.

Lars von Trier-film Direktøren for det hele (The Boss of it all; I will see Riget sometime soon... smile),

There's a lot of nice non-comedy-films too: Das Leben der anderen (Lives of others), Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei (Edukators), Pedro Almodóvar-films (Carne Tremula etc. ), Les quatre cents coups (The 400 blows), Kunsten at Græde i Kor (The Art of Crying), Mitt liv som hund (My life as a dog; I've got a lot of swedish favorite films, so I just mention this one, I guess you haven't heard of them anyway wink), Office Space and so on...

Taegukgi hwinalrimyeo
(Brotherhood of War, IMDB: 8.1/10)

Excellent Korean movie about the Korean War.

Re: Your favorite movie?

My favorites:

The Big Chill
The Last of the Mohicans
Dirty Dancing
O Brother Where Art Thou?
Saturday Night Fever
American Graffiti

Not exactly new movies but great soundtracks, it all depends on your taste in music.

Re: Your favorite movie?

The Rock yikes

With Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage !!!

Re: Your favorite movie?

I'm afraid I must base this off of the movies I have seen the most.
When I lived in Hong Kong (from when I was 2-4 years old), my parents recorded 'Top Gun' on the television.  Funnily enough, it had Mandarin subtitles and was edited for TV (less graphic sex scene).  I must mention that at the time, there were no TV shows for my demographic,  (Sesame Street, etc) so basically, for those two years,  'Top Gun' was my kiddie shows.  Not exaggerating, I saw it over 100 times over 2 years, and loved it every time.  Seeing it many years later into my teens, I find that it got even better, and more awesome, (and even a little funny).
My second movie comes from my days at prep school.  I must mention that whatever activities boarding school students do on their own time and with limited internet (no social networks, or online games, to keep the internet fast) can get repetitive and boring quite quickly.  So what do we do? We exchange movies or watch the ones we have over and over.  My movie that was running almost non stop in my room?  'Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy'.  It got to the point where I watched it so much, even when I was doing something else, like napping instead of homework.  (I love the commentary tracks on that DVD!)
Honorable Mentions include:
Nacho Libre: Cute, fun movie with good acting, even if it does have some potty humor.(with or w/out commentary, and watched in similar circumstances as HHGttG)
The Star Wars Movies: Original trilogy first, but I have a small place in my heart for Episodes I-III, because they complete the story
The Lord of the Rings: Great adaptation of the books.  Just wished they did something for 'The Silmarillion'.
(Argh! there are so many more that I should mention!!!)
