So there seems to be an issue with Conky in CrunchBang: also in my present left-hand "basic" Conky window, the bottom lines of the MPD part are occasionally cut off, after I start MPD manually... This is a bit complicated, and it is also surprising that (or if) the issue occurs only with CrunchBang and, as it seems, not generally with Openbox. Might be a reason for a bug report?

Thanks Piraja, never having tried Conky on my Ubutu Hardy machine I didn't know that anything was out of the ordinary.  A person could run 2 Conkys, one above and one below right?  Next question, how do you do that?

I agree, large images really slow down loading the new posts below them.

I view KDE like I view snow. It looks fun and marvelous, it's fun to play in, but after a while I just want someone to take it all away.

@jdugan
I am a noob so I am not sure this is the best way of doing it, but I launch multiple conky instances using the -c option  ...hope it helps

conky -q -c /home/koalinki/.Conky_files/conky_TL

will launch the conky_TL (top left) file i have saved in my .Conky_files folder

in a similar way I launch conky_TR, conky_BR and conky_BL
(I am not sure but i think the -q was for quiet...)

I had similar issue with conky cutting the bottom line so in my conky config file I added an empty line at the bopttom and  the problem seems to be solved.

Re: #! CrunchBang Linux Desktop Screenshots

Some use a script, to simplify entries in autostart.sh, basically.

myconky.sh

#!Bash
conky -c .conkyrc
conky -c .conkyrc2
conky -c .conkyrc3

For examle, and then in autostart.sh:

Thanks for the tips Mcarni and Kbang, I'll have to try that out.

Re: #! CrunchBang Linux Desktop Screenshots

Jdugan and all: Here's a very handy conky start/stop script by Bruce M (Ubuntu Forums has a thread with 6451 posts at the moment on Conky configuration):

#!/bin/sh

# click to start, click to stop

if pidof conky | grep [0-9] > /dev/null
then
 exec killall conky
else
sleep 2 # how many seconds Conky should wait for network connection, etc.
conky -c /home/piraja/conkies/conky-clock &
sleep 5
conky -c /home/piraja/conkies/conky-main &
sleep 2
conky -c /home/piraja/conkies/conky-keys &
sleep 2
conky -c /home/piraja/conkies/conky-mpd &
 exit
fi

You can paste that to an empty file, save it into ~/bin/ (name it what you will, I call it "bruce") and make it executable. Then you can add "bruce" to your autostart.sh if you want to launch the custom conkies at session start-up.

Not a grasshopper - it's either a praying mantis, or an alien pretending to be one.

Extremely cool pic.

I've become obsessed with the Helsinki Metro theme in my wallpaper & conky customizations.

The original photo is by Juhana Hietaranta — there you can see the window display that inspired my conky-mpd setup (Ozone font, yellow on black background in the window).

Stuck with Ubuntu until #! 9.04 64 is available so for now, my sell-out, obligatory BLING! desktop.

http://omploader.org/tMWl1aA http://omploader.org/tMWl1bA

Most of the ideas were ripped from various desktops in Ubuntu Forum's April Screenshot posts.

GTK:  Elementary
Emerald:  Elementary
Fonts:  GE Inspira Bold and HUGE (24 pitch, my LCD sucks up pitch size @ 42")
Wallpaper:  A Lot of Bubbles
Modified Firefox UserChrome to include GE Inspira Bold font

I view KDE like I view snow. It looks fun and marvelous, it's fun to play in, but after a while I just want someone to take it all away.

kbang,

How did you do to remove the bar of Firefox to get only "Menu" ?

It's an addon called Tiny Menu.  Then I put everything on the top bar via customize (everything I want, usually Foward/Back, reload, address bar, bookmarks and the little "busy" spinner).  Then I untick the Navigation Bar and the Bookmarks Bar.  To achieve an even more reduced top-bar I remove the names of the bookmarks and just leave the info for the favicons.

Since I am in Vista at the moment, here is how it looks on that and what I mean about the bookmarks:

http://omploader.org/tMWl2Ng

This was originally used by chucky chuckaluck on the Ubuntu Forums and I just figured out how he did it, rather clever IMO.

Re: #! CrunchBang Linux Desktop Screenshots

Nicky, it's an extension.

I'lls ee if I can track it down for you.

edit:

two options:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3895

and

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1455

kBang, from the looks of it, is using the 2nd, but the first is designed to have more..... something. Idk what, lol.
