Topic: autostart applications when openbox starts

Hi guys ..

I'm coding a little python script to manage autostart applications .. Really easy  big_smile

Howto :
* download script
* chmod
* copy to  /usr/local/bin

wget http://www.ad-comp.be/public/projets/ob-autostart/ob-autostart
chmod a+x ob-autostart
sudo mv ob-autostart /usr/local/bin

* Edit your ~/.config/openbox/autostart.sh ( remove applications and add 'ob-autostart -d &' )
* run ob-autostart and manage your applications ..

Well I followed the procedure - but I had not modified my autostart.sh, so I just added the required line - and I tested it without any problem.

If you let everything in autostart it seems normal that it works no ?
To test it you should put in comments all the lines in autostart except the one for this application. But maybe I misunderstood something.

I think yes.
Since I did not want to loose anything in my setup, I made a backup AND did not erase anything.
Then I added more applications (Dillo, to begin with, with a delay) in order to test :
1- Do modifications apply after the pre-existing apps ?
2 - Does a modification cause any damage ?

I can then answer
1-Yes, even if (which is quite normal) Dillo, set with 10s sleep, will launch before Conky, for which I set a 30s sleep in the autostart, but after lxpanel, set to launch with a 5s delay.
2-No, my Autostart is not damaged. I may have not read the script aright, but it seems to me it is left untouched.

The next step is of course to erase much of my setup, and recreate it within OB-Autostart.

Currently I'm still working on conky and openbox menu, but when I'm finish with the scripts (I'm learning) I will try this I think.

OB-autostart do not modify autostart.sh .. It store configuration in this file ~/.config/ob-autostart/config
So You can do as Yogi explain ( very well wink )

Simply add ' ob-autostart -d & ' to autostart.sh  and add an application ( for testing , like pcmanfm ) with ob-autostart.
If It works fine , you can remove other applications in your autostart.sh and manage them with ob-autostart  big_smile

Hrm...thats like O Bama (Bama is short for Alabama, US State and Universty of Alabama is a popular college football team, at least here where I live big_smile )

Well I nearly emptied my autostart.sh, and populated CBAMA, with full success on restart.

I suggest this would be placed in the default Openbox menu.

It is graphical, and if I well understand when you click on the ... button at the right of "command" it explore the file where the launchers of applications are, so it is easy to find in the list what you want to launch without knowing the command by heart.

Don't forget to still use autostart to launch this launch application big_smile
