Topic: A seperate CrunchEEE subforum

Could we have one? smile

Re: A seperate CrunchEEE subforum

I would request a

  • Crunchbang

  • Cruncheee

  • Crunchbang Lite

separation, if possible.

Re: A seperate CrunchEEE subforum

Even though im new to #! , i might as well say my opinion. I dont see a reason to why the Lite version even exists. So people can get 4-5 somehow lighter applications. when they can just install them afterwards if they want to use them? Just go with one. At least the seperate EEE ISO makes sense in terms of hardware support, and publicity for this new distribution. Just my 2 cents.

Re: A seperate CrunchEEE subforum

Actually, the LITE version existed before CrunchEEE, and was probably a direct predecessor to it. It was created for some users with lower specced machines. It also existed before corenominal got an eeePC, which then accelerated the CrunchEEE development.

I have not looked at the specific differences between regular and Lite, but it may just fade away.

Re: A seperate CrunchEEE subforum

Im not saying ditch Lite its bad & keep the other. Only that doubling the work for no reason should be avoided if possible. Furthermore for a distribution so young. Make 1 thing work as excellent as possible, then care about other stuff. And quite frankly, I dont think the advantages are that great if you use pcmanfm over thunar or leafpad instead of gedit etc. Its mostly a matter of preference, and OFC, features.

Re: A seperate CrunchEEE subforum

Does CrunchEEE use a different kernel?

Yes, CrunchEee uses the Array.org customised EeePC lean Kernel. For more information see: http://array.org/ubuntu/faq.html?id=7

Well I'm not sure, but I think there's more difference between the two then just the lighter apps.  I think there's a lot less things such as packages that aren't necessary.  Is this right?

Pretty much. The "Lite" variation was conceived and developed to satisfy users who were requesting packages to be removed from the standard release. I have no problem working on both, in fact, it kind of helps as the best bits from both editions can me intermixed as necessary.

Re: A seperate CrunchEEE subforum

edit: Satisfying everyone is imposible.

As long as quality is achieved along with the quantity.. But quality is more important IMO.
Any news about a seperate forum? smile

Re: A seperate CrunchEEE subforum

I like the compact nature of the forums and the way we post and share as a whole community. Separation into to many sub-forums may spoil that.

Agreed. I am not sure it is necessary at the moment to add additional forums. If possible, I would like to keep the forum count to a minimum for ease of use. Having said that, I think it would be a good idea for the moderators and myself to review the situation on a regular basis.
