Topic: A truly great distro

I installed crunchbang as my old pc and 'scratch' machine was running Xubuntu because of the low hardware specification, although a nice distro it hardly ran quickly as the PC was an ancient Compaq Deskpro EN model with pentium3 1Ghz processor and a meagre 384 meg of RAM and a NVIDIA Riva TNT2 Video card.

After looking at CrunchBang in virtual machine on my modern desktop using Virtualbox, i liked the minimal style and was impressed by low resources the system was using. I installed on the compaq with Zero hassle

The Compaq now seems to be turbo charged with Crunchbang running, the openbox wm performs well and the look and feel of the desktop is perfect for my needs on that PC.

A great job guys and thank you, i am very impressed in my first 48 hours of use, in fact i am now finding I prefer the console/terminal apps so much i may start using them on my main PC. I love the IRC chat and Feed reader in terminal windows !

Hello Tigerfish66

I am glad CrunchBang is working well for you and your machine. Welcome to the forums! smile

I second that! Love it!! Great looking, lightweight and with all the bells and whistles!

Re: A truly great distro

I actually have issues with my DeskPro EN... What did you do? lol.

I always seem to have it fail at partitioning... same with normal ubuntu. Xubuntu miraculously installed though! Any suggestions as to why it would fail? File system? Old HDD? DSL installed easily and so did xubuntu, so I am hesitant to say it's something wrong with the hard drive, but I don't know. I really dig the distro, I'd love to have it actually installed on a machine. Thanks!
