I think I probably have posted an actual net accessible IP address in the past. The IP address was issued by my mobile broadband provider and was dynamic. I do not know exactly how many addresses they have in their pool, but I thought it might be fun to play Russian roulette with IP addresses. lol

so essentially there could be some granny somewhere, innocently surfing knitting.com while evil hacker Mr Shuttleworth (jealous of the young upstart, #!) tries to take her down.

you could be responsible for gladys not being able to get her fix of knitting tongue

PS is this an official confirmation that #! is going debian ?

cbrunos, the sidux manual has a great chapter on how to safely maintain/upgrade a Debian Sid system.

Ignore the sidux-specific stuff (like you won't have a sidux.list obviously if you're not using sidux)

Thanks I'll take a look wink

No, never! big_smile

Seriously though, if all goes well, I should be able to make a more concrete statement later this week. smile

Re: Do you Squeeze/Sidbang?

I'm still on Crunchy x64 9.04
I've spent SO many hours tuning it, patching it, tweaking it, etc. I'm hesitant to go to one of the bare "Bang's." Though I tried out Brother blue jeans squeezebang. It's boot up was super fast and it was very responsive - but also very bare. Which is cool, just don't have the time right now to intall all the stuff I need. Especially not when I have finally got a really good Crunchy 9.04 running well.
In next few weeks, I hope to try out Omn's xfce-shebang. I really like xfce too, so I want to check it out. I'm also holding out a bit to see if lucid is another dissapointment... or no. So I'm in limbo, but having fun hearing about all the "bangers."

Peace

It would be splendid if #! moves to Debian, but here comes the trouble with hardware support and thumbs up for custom kernel smile

Re: Do you Squeeze/Sidbang?

I'm curious about using omns' instructions, mainly because I'm not a fan of the Ubuntu release philosophy. This would be on my Eee 901, so I wonder if anyone's done this already? Anyone have any experience with Squeeze, omns' instructions and Eee?

I still feel like Bambi on ice with Linux, but I've found that I'd really like a stable system that I don't need to completely update every six months (i.e. Ubuntu-based...).

Thanks for any help!

Eee 901 + #! = smile

Re: Do you Squeeze/Sidbang?

squeeze users, after last update, gnome-power-manager no longer detects my laptop battery. I have posted a bug report http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=573916 , if you can confirm this bug please reply to the bug thread to get it fixed.

Edit:
nevermind, after today's update the bug was fixed (and other one appeared hmm: now totem doesn't stop the gnome-power-manager display sleep feature while playing videos roll, well i'll just use vlc)... that's why it's called testing... i'll give it a second thought before doing an update again... may be when it becomes stable... cool
