Topic: #! debian / ubuntu

something i do not understand regarding the new artwork-logos is why this debian swirl is included everywhere?
has there been any reference to ubuntu in former times?

for me, personally, both logos - the #! and the debian swirl don't fit together.
this is not meant as an metapher [!], just aesthetics.
i appreciate the move to debian a lot, but i'd ignore its logo when it comes to statler's artwork.

Re: #! debian / ubuntu

In 9.04, as I understand it, yes, everything was based on Ubuntu, and switched to Debian with 10 Alpha. Based on what I heard in Linuxoutlaws144 interview, and my own flawed understanding of the United States legal system, we're completely whacko about enforcing copywrite, including names and symbols - so, no red/orange/yellow circle for 9.04. As I understand it, unless a company comes out and defends their licenses of a logo, they can lose it. (A shot of Vodka with a beer chaser helps silence the inner voice of common sense.)

Debian, which is not a corporation, isn't looking to sue anyone over use of their stuff. Cononical may HAVE to sue in order to remain in the American marketplace. (Additional shot of Vodka, chased by beer.)

I think paying your respects to Debian and Ubuntu is just and fair, because with them our favorite distro wouldn't be here, but we are Geeks. The bloody Lawyers (Barristers in the UK - I have no idea what they're called in Germany) have made the rules. mad

Re: #! debian / ubuntu

Artwork is subjective and people create whatever they feel is pleasing to the eye. Keep in mind there's only a few official wallpapers in the release. The main one has the Debian swirl the others don't. Some of the new community art has the swirl, other's don't.

It's all good from where I sit cool

Re: #! debian / ubuntu

I think it's just something that is front and centre at the moment. It's a major change. I assume by the next release it won't be so 'top of mind' with people.
