Topic: HOWTO Master List

Interested in creating a master list of Howto articles / solutions.

Instead of everyone stumbling blindly through the forums for problems that have already been solved, we will be starting a wiki page with solutions to create a centralized location for the answers.   Found a good article on the forums?  Found an answer elsewhere / figured it out on your own?

If you have found a solution to a problem, post a link to the information here!

******************************************
The HOWTO Master List Wiki Page has been created

http://crunchbanglinux.org/wiki/howto_pages

All submissions added at this forum thread will be posted to wiki list.

If you have the ability / inclination, create a minor wiki page with a description of your problem/solution.

OR:

Add a link at the Master List wiki page

If you have neither... smile

Just post a link to your solution here, and we'll try to add it.

Good one, this could quite easily be turned into a wiki page. smile Also, let us not forget the wiki FAQ page, it would be good if we could link to any frequently asked questions and solutions. wink

Re: HOWTO Master List

Huzzah!!

First entry!

Thank you, gnema!  Officially added as the first solution on the list.

dailaio:  Is that a proper haiku on network interfaces?

@dailaio  big_smile

Eh heh heh.  Yes.  Yes, it is.

@corenomial:  Oh, duh! Forgot about that! As long as the solutions count as "Frequently asked questions", will add them there too.

Setting up a private encrypted directory (the easy way) and moving your Mozilla folder into it is as easy as:

sudo apt-get install ecryptfs-utils
ecryptfs-setup-private
mv ~/.mozilla ~/Private
ln -s ~/Private/.mozilla ~/.mozilla

Glad to hear it. You might check out some of my other posted questions. I have asked a lot of questions since starting to use #! (what can I say...I'm a noob ;-) Hopefully other noobies can benefit from my experiences. And everyone on the forum has been ridiculously helpful with my issues. I love how willing to help people are on this forum. It makes switching over to Linux from Windows that much easier.

Ha!  That's the same reason I got into the wiki/howtos.  I've done a lot of work figuring a lot of things out on my own, and so it's a lot more meaningful a use of that time spent if I share it with others.  smile  I'd love to hear some more problems you've found solutions for... the list is getting bigger!

Re: HOWTO Master List

I had a similar issue and the LAN was nonfunctional. My solution was to plug in a wireless usb adapter, and #! auto-loaded the needed drivers. Then I was able to successfully download the drivers to my built in wifi adapter.

Re: HOWTO Master List

@lkraemer - Please don't post the Howto directly in this thread. You can make a wiki page or make a thread in the Tips, Tricks & Scripts forum section.

Note: ** Please read before posting **

BTW if you wish to contact me, send me an e-mail instead of a PM.

Re: HOWTO Master List

Anonymous,
According to the Wiki it is proper!  When did it change, and why wasn't the Wiki page updated?

If you have found a solution, add a link here. Submissions are welcome directly to the wiki page. Otherwise, you can add a message about your solution at the HOWTO Master-List sticky at the forums, and we will add it to the wiki for you.

Re: HOWTO Master List

The first post in this thread says to post a link to your solution.

Anyways the reason I ask that you make a seperate thread or wiki page is to keep this thread clean.

Note: ** Please read before posting **

BTW if you wish to contact me, send me an e-mail instead of a PM.
