This is something about personal and subjective taste and everyone has right smile

How do you change the colors for the obmenu?

I changed the gtk colors, but could not figure out how to change the obmenu colors.

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

You have to edit the Openbox theme of course. The path is something like:

/usr/share/themes/themename/openbox-3/themerc

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I personally use the default theme, I find it very unobtrusive and I really like the text only for menus...

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I like the default Crunchbang (not Crunchbang-dark) theme that came with 9.04.02 very much - my only change is to use icons-only instead of text-only for toolbars. Burnished aluminium top bar, restful greys... occasionally you'd have to say too little contrast I guess.

I like the new Statler themes. I was using StatlerBox now switched to Shiki-Statler.

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I like the Statler theme; I occasionally use others but like the Statler theme.  Currently using the Variation window manager theme and change my icons as it suits me.  I just can't seem to understand or appreciate shadows on web pages or applications though.  It must be an acquired taste.  wink

I wasn't crazy about Statler-box in alpha1  - a bit too ... flat or something, but the new Shiki ones are nice! smile

Only, my Openbox Shiki-Statler and Shiki-Statler-Dark themes seem to be identical, and dark, so the GTK Shiki-statler that comes as default is too light for the Openbox theme. Set GTK to Shiki-Statler-Dark and it looks fine (though dark).
(Maybe a glitch that got fixed in an update that I'll download when my network issue is fixed.)

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

Yeah I noticed their identicalness as well. I posted about it, but Corenominal hasn't answered.

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

Hi,
I'm a CrunchBang newbie, coming from a fullfledged Linux-beginner-distro, with all the eyecandy 3d-stuff, some weeks ago and am still curious of the simplicity of the #!-looks. I use the default #! theme, but changed the wallpaper 'cause it was a little too dark for everyday use. The long dark winter is on the way within three month anyway... cool
I cutted out shortcuts, formated the clock-look a little bit with taskbar on top and by the way made the desktop look even a little more minimalistic...without panelframes.
But the #!-standard-wallpaper and theme was an eye-catcher first and made me interested in #!, because it looked so different from what I was uesd to. I wouldn't change the default-wallpaper and theme generally!

'going to install #! on a friends laptop soon, kickin' out some wellknown os-stuff    Viva software libre!!!  wink

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I still use 9.04 and basically kept everything. only browser opens undecorated and with icons only - and I chose the smoke-wallpaper that came with 9.04, cause I like how the mouse arrows appears just in the center of the smoke.. in conky I deleted the keybind-text and put a big clock and date on top. that's it.

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I love the default theme.  I conform the browsers to fit the theme w/ their different skins.  I browser hop hmm and like them meshing in with the theme.  I will likely change conky as I get more familiar - the conky wiki had some great suggestions and I do not need all the shortcuts but like the feel nonetheless. I'm done distro hoping.

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

With 9.04 I never used the default theme.

With Statler I use it, I find it nice. Change the wallpaper constantly, change tint2 configs, icons instead of text on menus... aesthetically, that sums it up.
Does tinkering with contents in OBmenu count? Nah, don't think so.

This Statler theme made Chrome fit in perfectly, which for me is a major plus. Also, since the change to Debian I've tried to stay away from my old ways, of bright contrast and green themes. Most wallpapers don't look that good. Neutralness+awesome bg pictures = perfect.

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I've not changed the wallpaper or theme in statler since I installed it

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I changed all

from gtk theme to window manager lol

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I have to agree with rsw.  I tend to switch themes/icons etc quite a lot, but the most functional/easy on the eye ones are still for me the Win-9x copies.
Whether that's because that look is genuinely the best, or more likely because that was the OS I first really used a lot so it feels right, I dunno, but it's undeniable.

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I use the 9.04 theme in Statler (I think the monotone grey is really cool).

And spoovy, in Windows 7, I use the Windows Classic theme. Sometimes I can convince my friends it's Windows 95.

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

At the moment i'm using shiki-statler for openbox and dyne for gtk, but i also like the statler gtk theme.
I've changed it many times, but i keep coming back to these themes.

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I have been using #! since 2008 and have never changed the default theme. smile

My only "tweaks" are to change the wallpaper (I like the green leaf) and add a few apps to the menu.

#! is perfect. wink

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I liked the alpha visually when I booted into it for the first time, but soon found that the theme and the general color thing was not usable for me. It depresses me somehow big_smile That's said I do use dark themes, I modified the new Ambiance GTK to be a dark theme, but it has that bit of orange and so on.

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I never change any desktop - once I have firefox opened, where's the desktop!?
I only use a desktop so I can have a browser, couple of terminals for moc, alpine, newsbeuter and calcurse, and skype. I don't care what it looks like, as long as it is light!

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I often use my desktop at night, so the dark default Statler theme is barely enough not to emit too much light, even with the screen set darkest ! And I like this black and white look 'n feel of the Shiki-Statler-Dark theme (gives darker windows, tabs and all).
