Re: squeezebang is now testing

Hi bluejeans, nice to see you on the forum at last. Got squeezebang up and running and its looking good. Of course I switched some things around to suit my taste. The only thing I've really noticed is that swiftfox isn't there. Don't know where it went but oh well. I'm enjoying it. See ya in the irc.

Re: squeezebang is now testing

This looks awesome. I'll have to try your 64bit version. Awesome work. It'll be awhile before I get a chance to try it out. But I'll let you know once I do.
Thanks again - Brotherblue & Omns

Re: squeezebang is now testing

Hey BrotherBlue,

I just installed your x64 version - in fact writing this email from it - super appreciative of your work. I've a few issues however. I've installed a new user as you described. When I try to logon as that user, it just brings me to a blue-ish screen and stops there. I have to Ctrl-Alt-F1 to a terminal and stop gdm. Then logon as tux. When in tux, I can see there's a home/tux and a home/tshann. Both appear to have the same stuff in them, but when I longon as tshann, ... as above, sky blue &  nada.
Another issue, no wireless. Squeeze doesn't see it. I'm typing now from a hardwired ethernet connect. But I have no wireless and don't know how - in debian - to go about getting it to see my wireless card.

   Any ideas?

Thanks,  sweet and fast ride by the way.

       Peace

Re: squeezebang is now testing

tshann:
about the login.. i suspect that it is just the gdm session selector thing.. (for lack of a more technical name hehe)  i must have forgot to make openbox-session the default system wide and thus is only set for user tux..  try loging in with gdm but click on the "select session" and choose "openbox session"  -- then confirm that you want to make this the defualt session..

regarding the wireless.. i didn't include any wireless firmware because i was having prolems getting it to load properly in 'live' .. but the kernel drivers are all there so just find out what card you have 'lspci | grep Network' and then search you model and install the firmware.

glad you are enjoying it big_smile

Re: squeezebang is now testing

Thanks brother blue.
Openbox session did it. Also wireless firmware installed. It was funny because the intel firmware was installed but  wicd still didn't see any wireless networks. Then went into wicd preferences and by just inputting wlan0 and refreshing, it picked up my wireless signal.

Anyways, your distro is looking like a possibility. Footprint is tight, and she's chippy and crispy. The major things, which I don't have time to Tshoot/fix now, are no suspend, no hibernate, and skype doesn't work.

So I did some tweaking, got some things working, installed a few things, like touchfreeze, thunar, etc. Then I did a remastersys backup iso so I have it backed up. Now if my further tweaking hoses it, I can fall back to the custom remastersys iso I made.

I have a good working rig with Crunchy x64 now, most everything is working well. When I have time, I'm evaluating between other distro's that can afford similar functionality.

Currently I'm looking between your openbox squeezebang and Omn's xfce sqeezebang. I wish adcomp's was available as X64, because that'd be in the running too. But for now, I'm checking out between your two guys OS's.  So will probably install Omn's next to see how easy it is to pimp out - or not.

Again thanks tons for making this puppy available. It's a sweet ride.

     Peace

In what way? If you can see it reload each line as you scroll, could simply be that you havent installed proper graphics drivers.

No, it's not in the graphical drivers, or in the Pango bit.
It's in the speed of downloading pages. It might be an issue with my router.

Re: squeezebang is now testing

Erm - swiftfox - it won't run for me. Have the 32 bit iso, all else appears OK, checksum was good. When I try to run swiftfox from menu/icon in the bar, or even on the cli, swiftfox appears briefly in top output then goes away. Moreover it goes away for ever, that is a second attempt results in nix, nada, nothing. Well strictly speaking, in a console it results in 'Illegal instruction'. Haven't been able to locate any logs which might yield a clue. Anyone else struck this? Any known workarounds? Tried on two ThinkPads, both with integrated Intel graphics. Squeezebang looks nice otherwise, but this is a bit of a show stopper. Haven't struck swiftfox hitherto, but as far as I can tell the required files are present.

Re: squeezebang is now testing

Hmmm. Kinda quiet in here. Spose the new trend in #! makes squeeze! superfluous? Anyway, for the record, looked at the absent swiftfox bizzo again. Tried from scratch in console, ie as first attempt to run s'fox during session. This threw up maybe 20 times '(swiftfox-bin : 3113); Gtk-WARNING**; Unable to locate theme engine in module-path "murrine" '. Look like swiftfox doesn't like some part of the gui? After that all was silence as before. Guess some file is locked or something like that stopping further attempts to launch? Anyone out there who knows or cares?

Re: squeezebang is now testing

Hi Bluejeans, thanks for your work. I`ve probed and worked with many distros (Versionitis), and in terms of esthetic, net speed, temp (40 C in a laptop HP DV4 AMD, thats amazing !!, my preview: 60-70 C), Conky  conf (very nice and useful) Its one of the best and elegant distros that i`ve seen (as well as Linux Mint). Congratulations. I only have 1 issue: at the 5 or 6 boot, give the error fsck is died with item 16, and stops. Dont boot. Version 32 bytes and 64 too.  (Excuse my poor english, my native is spanish). Test disk is ok. Any idea or wait for next relase ? Thanks for your response

Re: squeezebang is now testing

I answer my self. The FSTAB changed the UUID`s to bad order, ext4 have a bug with FSCK (Damaged by unappropiated shut-downs), i have now squeezebang in ext 3, and in FSTAB (PASS = 0). It fix the status 16 that doesn`t have start
