Topic: Hi folks!

Just finished setting up my first #! install with Statler Openbox on my NC10 netbook. All went ok apart from not being able to install from a usb stick, so i used an external dvd drive instead.

I've been using Arch for the past couple of years (i still have it on my desktop pc) using mainly tiling wm's. That distro really is great , but having decided to wipe Windows from my netbook i thought i would try something different. While looking for alternatives i came across #! I've got to say i am VERY impressed with the presentation and quality of #! Installation and getting a nice default setup straight out the box was painless compared to Arch wink  That "cb-welcome" script is awesome, along with a nice default conky and useful openbox key-bindings list.

I've got lots of reading up to to do over the coming weeks about #! and how it all fits together. I will probably mess around with it for a bit and then do a complete reinstall when it hits stable.

I hope i can contribute to the #! community in some way in the future when i get more experienced in using it.

Did i say i am very impressed by #! smile

Welcome to the forums manx. Also if I may ask: why did you decided to try a new distro?

Hi anonymous. In the past i was a serial distro hopper - i've tried almost everything over the past ten years or so before finally settling down with Arch. I love the rolling-release model it has, and the freedom to set everything up the way you want to. Having said that, i know how long it takes to get everything working in Arch, and while i know where all the config files are stored and what to change, i didn't really want to have to go through all that again when setting up my netbook.

I knew i'd need something that is light on resources, and started to look at Debian-based distro's and came across #! I've always had a soft spot for Debian as it was one of the first Linux systems i ever tried, and once i found out that #! uses Openbox as it's core WM i thought i'd give it a try. It hasn't disappointed me in any way so far. I am really surprised at how easy it was to setup - i wasn't really expecting it smile

Thanks for the welcome's everyone!
