I agree, I'd like to see #! replace Network Manager with WICD.

Re: more alternatives to Totem (11 replies, posted in Feedback & Suggestions)
Just wanted to ask you guys if you have problems with gnome-mplayer while using diff aspects ratios. I've tried the gnome-mplayer in the repos and even more current versions and it never handles aspect ratios correctly for me. To explain it better, if the vid is 4:3 or something else and I switch to 16:10, it will leave the video still on the screen that is outside the aspect ratio I changed to. Mplayer does not do this for me. It's always just been a problem in gnome-mplayer for me.
Also while I was against using totem at first, I find it alot better than using mplayer or xine or even vlc. Especially with the new youtube and bbc plugins.

Maybe someone can help me with a few problems I'm having with openbox and its autostart etc. Ok first problem is I'm used to loading backgrounds immediately from GDM to desktop with Gnome. So that there is no change of wallpaper or flicker. With openbox this is obviously delayed with a black screen. My way around this for the time being has been to add the background to be loaded to the GDM PostLogin config.
Also openbox takes alot of time to autostart processes, like for me I would like to basically load things in this order:
Wallpaper
Conky
Panel
Tray
Openbox
With this order it kind of gives a fake sense of immediate desktop usage. Everything appears instantly. My problem is I cant do this with autostarting apps from openbox's autostart. So I'm wondering if any users know how I could basically create my own xsession or run these apps before openbox loads and then load openbox without any autostarts.
Basically by default upon login I sit at a blackscreen and maybe 5 secs later everything loads. But theres really no need for this at all. I should be able to load everything instantly since it does thru anything I pipe into the GDM PostLogin. Problem with GDM PostLogin though is the processes are started as root, which is obviously not what I want at all.

Re: [Solved] PC went CrAzY! (4 replies, posted in Help & Support (Stable))
Id make sure xfce-mcs is still autostarting for you, also note that if you used lxappearance that application will overwrite your .gtkrc-2.0 file and it might have also created a .gtkrc-2.0-mine(something like that) for you to place custom gtk settings in. So maybe a quick fix would be to start a plain openbox session, make sure xfce-mcs is running and not lxde-settings daemon, and then delete your .gtkrc-2.0 file in your home directory. Then reapply your desired theme thru the xfce-setting-show ui dialog.

Sry, for not being able to find the thread. I browsed a lot of posts and there was a thread with a user complaining about lag times while doing file transfers. Just wanted to point out on one of the kernel mailing list that it was reported to be caused by the CFQ scheduler not performing as intended. The proposed workaround was to use Deadline scheduler until issues with CFQ were corrected. Hope this clears up your question(whoever the user was). It's not a bug with #! or Ubuntu.

Topic: Xfce-mcs-manager (1 replies, posted in Feedback & Suggestions)
Ok I commented on xfce-mcs-manager in my introduction post and about autostarting it etc and the use of gtkrc-2.0. Well I'd like to suggest removing xfce-mcs-manager in favor of lxappearance. This app provides changing the gtk theme without the over heard of autostarting xfce4 components. I'd also like to suggest removing all the other xfce components)most will autoremove after removing xfce-mcs, but things like xfce4 terminal etc.
lxappearance will not apply themes to administrative apps(synaptic etc) so basically after I set my current theme with lxappearance I copied the .gtkrc-2.0 file over to /root/ to obtain the same theme across all apps. This is the only problem for the time being since I know the whole idea behind using Xfce-mcs was that it set all apps to the current theme.
Anyways just wanted to throw the suggestion out.
Also offtopic, I've been reading about a few complaints with Thunar and mounting internal 2nd hd's etc, would Pcmanfm help at all in this regard, or is thunar more feature rich than pcmanfm?

Topic: Just Installed (3 replies, posted in Introductions)
Just wanted to drop my first post and say I installed #! today. I've been looking for a distro like this. So let me throw out my opinion on the apps, even though I understand everyone is going to have their own opinion on the matter. These are the adds I replaced :
Mplayer instead of Totem
Exaile instead of Rhythmbox
Thunderbird instead of ClawsMail
Gnomescan instead of Xsane
Removed File-Roller since Squeeze is installed(Didnt know why we should have 2 Archivers)
Then I also removed alot of the sound converters/movie editors(kept kino & Winff)
Replaced Desktop Wallpaper and GDM Theme with those created by omns (nice work dude, they look nice)
Now one thing I wanted to raise some questions on are about the Openbox Autostart config. For one I'm not sure if nitrogen refused to work because of me removing the sleep times or if because I possibly removed something(even though im 100% sure I removed nothing that would interfere with Nitrogen). So Nitrogen refused to show me any backgrounds after modifying the autostart so I just removed nitrogen altogether and replaced it with hsetroot in the config as follows:
#Set Wallpaper
hsetroot -fill /usr/share/backgrounds/Crunchbang_Stripes_Widescreen_by_omns.png
Also I choose to remove the xfce mcs manager from startup since I had set the theme and icon theme in the gtkrc-2.0 file. Also because upon opening the xfce-setting-show ui it automatically runs the xfce mcs manager. I also disabled the autostart of gnome keyring since it starts without the need for an autostart listing.
My question with the autostart config is about the sleep times. What exactly does the sleep times do to the apps? I removed all the sleep times in the default config and it seems to load the desktop instantly instead of having a delay.
Anyways I just wanted to let you know I'm very pleased with the distro you put together and will continue using it.
