Topic: where are the installed programs? (4 replies, posted in Help & Support (Stable))
If I install software using the synaptic package manager, a lot of times I have no clue where the program went. It is not in the menu and it doesnt appear when I use 'run command'.
Where should I be looking?

Re: Grub 21 error (9 replies, posted in Help & Support (Stable))
I have the same problem.
Now, my output is
(hd1,0)
(hd1,5)
(hd2,0)I have two internal HD's plus the USB inserted with SGD on it. My hda (sda) is my internal /home-directoy and hdb (sdb) is my current Crunchbang installation.
Which one is of the above should I use for the root and setup commands of installing my grub?
And this is my fdisk -l, at least for my OS-partition...
Looks a bit double, doesn't it?? Can't I clean this is up in some nice way?

Re: #! install -> grub failure -> session failure (2 replies, posted in Help & Support (Stable))
As always with these things, I downloaded the mini.iso and to burn it I still needed a OS. So before installing some other distro meanwhile like TinyMe I decided to try the old #! install once more with the SGD. Suddenly I get no mistakes. So I am now in my installed #!-system!!
The only thing is that I had to use SGD which is already updated. So I am not sure if it will work without SGD. Do not know how to install grub correctly...

Topic: #! install -> grub failure -> session failure (2 replies, posted in Help & Support (Stable))
I'm this close to pick another distro, but I think I can actually really like Crunchbang, so I don't want to...
LiveCD
The LiveCD work just fine. The install goes smoothly, though some confusion during partitioning, choose the guided version.
Reboot without LiveCD and I get GRUB failure.
GRUB and session failure
I get the famous grub failure with Error 2
Grub Loading stage1.5
Grub Loading , please wait...
Error 2What exactly the number of the error means, I don't know. But I think I partitioned without Grub.
So I downloaded the SGD on a USB flash drive and rebooted. Now the GRUB failure is missing (yeeh!) and Crunchbang starts to boot.
Just after the logo I get a session failure:
No Exec line in the session file:07IceWM. Running the GNOME failsafe session instead.
Could not find the GNOME installation, will try running the "Failsafe xterm" session. Then another dialog suggesting to fix the errors from the xterm dialog.
Solutions I have seen posted say I can change the session to Openbox as a default. I did this and it still doesn't work. So this error continues.
This http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic
-to-xterm/ is someone with the same problem but somehow I do not entirely understand what they're doing with all the thread links...
Then, because I still have a terminal, the least I want is to do is to fix the Grub failure, so I install grub
$sudo apt-get install grub
$sudo grub-update Reboot without the SGD and I still get the Grub failure.
Is it possible?
I really would love to be able to run Crunchbang, but I start to think it's impossible.
I have two HD's, onw with "Crunchbang" and one with my home directory. I do not mind formatting everything again and start all over. But I need to change something to get rid of these errors.
Any ideas?
