This seems to have helped people with my exact same issue wink

Thanks!

Im using the version that's in the repo, which is 2.48

I'll give 2.49b a try.

and I'm waiting till the end of the month to grab 9.10 - I'm surviving on a mere 3GB per month of bandwidth.

Pity about the ATI support being so shabby.

I've got an HD4870 and my friend has an HD5870 that's just waiting to tear up what Ubuntu can throw at it wink

Followed those exact steps.

I still have the exact some problem.

If I try to use Blender on my #! 9.04 running on my EEE 1000H I get strange artifacts / ghosting on the top and bottom of the 3D view.

I have no idea how to fix this, and Google hasn't turned up any useful results.

Can anybody help?!

Below is a screenshot explaining my problem.

I'm guessing it's got to do with the video driver, but I'm not sure where to go or what to do.

2.4ghz processor, 128mb nvidia video card, 1.5mb ram... and what am I doing with all that power?  Playing text adventures,  correspondence chess,  using a fancy stopwatch and crashing gajim.  Guess I'm not as into gaming as I was when I built this thing. lol

Heh, a similar thing has happened to me. Very rarely do i use the power of my 4870 (bought when new for over $500 yikes ). Game I play mostly is Counter-Strike: Source, and I could run that on my old 5700U, which btw has better support in *nix than my current 4870...

Only every now and again when a new game comes along and I feel like playing does my video card get to stretch its legs. Which is like once every 3 months.

I've also got an HD4870 wink

Although I DO game seriously / a lot, which is the only reason I still have Windows running alongside #!, because unfortunately I don't only play WoW, but  everything from Crysis to Mass Effect as well wink 4GB of RAM doesn't hurt either.

no, seriously, #! is sexy enough to not show naked women (or men) wink  even if it looks soooooo sexy on a desktop smile

If its in the spirit of minimalism / ultimate style, I think there's nothing wrong with it.

If the wallpaper, interface and colours are custom tailored to work together beautifully (and they do) - I think its great.

When its simple a picture of a girl because "I'm a dude who rates I'm cool, like seriously, man" then I disagree.

Installed it on my Desktop PC / Gaming PC as well to use as my main OS!

Currently dual-booting Windows 7 and #! 9.04.1

I've been using #! for, oh well, more than 6 months now, on my trustee ASUS EEE PC 1000H, and have converted tons of people to use #! instead of Ubuntu due to its extreme customizability, and lightness while still having the epic range of applications to choose from that Ubuntu shares.  Nothing beats the looks I get when I whipped out me EEE and started taking notes and working in class without a word (I come from South Africa, where laptops are unheard of in the classroom, many school don't even have IT labs). I've gotten a couple Mac users to be arrogant at me (they usually are*) until I booted into my OS faster than they could big_smile

I'm busy posting while its installing (from the LiveCD) and for the record - fastest CD boot I've ever been through.

Great job, as always - #! is a quality product and I'm extremely pleased with how minimal it looks (especially on a 22" monitor).

4GBs of RAM, an ATI HD4870 and a (soon to be) Core i7 don't hurt either cool

*Only a joke wink

Doesn't sound like an effective tweak smile Perhaps your problem is hardware related. Crunchbang boots quicker than XP on my machines.

On my EEE with (arguably) limited hardware when compared to desktop PCs it boots significantly faster than XP - and once you login its immediately responsive and ready-to-go.

Something isn't right.

Hmm. I have no experience with the EeePC 1101HA, but I know with my EEEPC 1000H that it'll take a restart to get Wi-Fi activated after deactivating it from the hotkeys.

Maybe turn Wi-Fi on using the hotkeys and restart?

As Suggsted earlier, Download Video Helper add-on (for Firefox) works great, and is what I've been using since I first installed it.

I changed my default theme after seeing some of the amazing work some guys have done with their interfaces over in the screenshot threads.

But I actually quite like the the default theme - I just love making my machine unique and attractive to me, but also specially customized to suite MY needs better than any other OS (which Linux allows you to do).

I've used all of them - Swiftfox, Chromium and Opera 10 Beta on #!.

I've gotta say, on my EEE, Chromium takes it all.

I've also been using Chromium for quite a while now (like as in a couple months), and I've got to say I'm still using it for my main browser - its FAAAAAR faster than Firefox / any other alternative, and it runs great on my EEE.

The project's development is very active as well, with noticeable updates every week to fortnight or so.

The lack of official support for Flash doesn't bother me in the slightest though - bandwidth costs around $10 per GB in South Africa, so I don't miss it wink

My thoughts exactly, I also wasn't an outright fan until the Opera 10 Alpha (no Beta) which is fantastic.

I've got to agree with a lot of people on this one, VLC simply works and I'm familiar with it already.

I've used the app for AGES now - and it's never let me down.
