Re: CrunchBang on the eee pc
Just ordered it.
Aaagh, beat me to to it. Looks like I'll be waiting for mine now until well into the new year as the Christmas idea has not gotten past the better half/family accounts manager ![]()

I am planning on getting a netbook next year sometime. I am still debating between an eee 1000 and an Aspire One. A fella is bringing an AA1 to our newly formed LUG meeting tonight, so I want to play with that for a sec or two. He has it dual booting with debian (lenny) and kubuntu-daily on it.
Of course, I will #!n mine!

My wife has often often accused me of caring more for my eee than I do for her.
She's right of course, not that I'll admit it to her (I'm stupid, but not that stupid!)
It just arrived this morning. Gorgous machine. Setting it up to be crunchbanged (sounds dirty) now! ![]()

Hey there,
i just succesfully installed crunchbang on my eee 900. And i love it so far. Great Work, thanks a lot. I was wondering: Is there a way to hide the panel at the bottom? I feel like i do not really need it anyways and i would rather like to have some additional screen size. Any Ideas?
Greetings!
Thanks for that fabsh - this will come in handy for our growing number of eee pc users
I hope it does! CrunchBang really rocks on the Eee! ![]()

Thank you fabsh, great write-up. I will copy it across to the wiki. BTW, I really am quite jealous. Enjoy your new Eee! ![]()

I wonder if eventually there will be a customized #eee#eee!! (crunchie-crunchie-bang-bang) distro? ![]()
Dan says we need to call it Cruncheee! ![]()
@corenominal: Thanks! I hope you get one soon as well. ![]()
Great name, but I think it needs a nice gold theme ![]()
I second Cruncheee! ![]()
I'm going to install #! on my Eee 1000 over the next few days (if not tonight). I want to be all settled in for Christmas, because I'm going to be a week or so with just the Eee, and no internet! ![]()
Quick question: Should I install the special eee-pc kernel using Unetbootin? The Wiki doesn't say.
Hmm, well that didn't work. Tell you what, I'm going to start another thread over here to keep all my noobishness out of the way. If someone could give me some pointers, I would really appreciate it. ![]()

To answer you question, no, you first install #! to your eee (using Unetbootin to prepare a live USB, or an external USB CD drive works too). Then, once the install is complete, you plug in your wired ethernet connection and use that to install the array.org kernel. You can't install a new kernel to a Live USB as far as I know.
Good luck with #! on your eee!
I'll second snowpine's recommendations. Install base #! first then use wired networking to install array.org kernel. More specifically use this howto.
http://www.array.org/ubuntu/setup-intrepid.html
Add array.org repositories to your apt-get sources using the above howto and you'll get the kernel and a couple of other niceties.
zahnersatz: right-click the clock! On my #! (installed 8.04 lite, 1.4GB all incluse) I found that hides panel - move mouse bottom edge and it reappears.
Almost, it works for me. And, you can gain space (in Firefox) with "disablemenu" addon.

This doesn't work in #! 8.10.1 & lxpanel. Wish it did.
..not expert in Openbox..I will take a look in configuration files later..
anyway, I tested also 8.10, but 8.4 (with Array kernel) runs smoother on my eee, dont know why.
Andrea
update: I didn't realize #!8.10 use lxpanel. Sorry, but I never (previously) obtained hiding panel in lxde. I searched in lxde dedicated forum, but nothi
ng.
It could be a good reason for use #!8.04
Bye.
