Re: Your CrunchBang Linux system

Loaded #! on my T61 now too.

Name: Lenovo T61 (Crunchpad)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 @ 2.5GHz
Screen: 15" 1440x900
RAM: 4GB DDR2
HDD: 64GB Samsung SSD
Optical Drive: SATA DVD Burner
Graphics: Intel X3100
Sound: Onboard Intel
Network: Intel Ethernet, Intel 802.11n

Notes: Crunchbag absolutely screams on here. I probably won't ever use all the RAM I have in this.

I'll be building a new computer this week and I might just put #! on it. Here are the specs:
Processor: AMD Athlon II x4 635 @ 2.9GHz
Motherboard: Gigabyte MA-770TA-UD3
RAM: 4GB DDR3
Graphics: nVidia Geforce GT 240

Re: Your CrunchBang Linux system

Optical Drive: Slim 24x cdrom
Graphics: ATI RV250 (spec sheet says ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 32mb dedicated)
Sound: Intel AC'97
Network: Intel chipset, wired & wireless

Notes:  Everything works that I need.  Never tried onboard dialup modem.  Doesn't appear to be a working driver for the ATI video, but generic driver seems to work  well enough.  CPU is a little light for some web surfing, mainly flash type stuff.

Dell Latitude D505
Pentium M 1.6 Ghz
15 inch screen
1GB Ram
160 GB HD
DVD-RW
Intel 855 Graphics
Broadcom BCM4306 wireless G
Note: the only reliable way I found to get this card working is using the linuxant windows driver loader, which costs $20,
it's a bummer, but with the normal b43 driver the wireless would drop out after a max of maybe an hour, sometimes 5 minutes after boot it wouldn't work and wouldn't come back unless I rebooted. using ndiswrapper I could get wireless to work stable but wouldn't support WPA encryption.
Reliable wireless is a necessity for a laptop, so I forked over the $20 and now it works perfectly.

Comments: Couldn't get Crunchbang to recognize the sound and lan because Crunchbang is a little old and build on Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty).  I had to do an Ubuntu Minimal Install of 9.10 Karmic with the Crunchbang install script.  After fixing a few minor issues, it works great is does things dang near instantly with openbox as a window manager.

Re: Your CrunchBang Linux system

I just installed CrunchBang Statler to my Dell Mini 9. It is faster then the original OS and seems to have more features. The only real issue I had was getting the wireless working. I tried the Broadcom STA drivers and it worked until I rebooted and then no more. I think the wireless card was disabled, and since I know longer have the function keys F2 would not get it going. So I tried ndisgtk and the Dell XP driver and its been working good ever since. I would like to find out how to enable and disable the card so maybe I could go back to the Linux drivers, but I am happy with how its working now. If anyone else has installed to a Mini 9 I would like to hear how it went and any tricks you may have discovered. Since this is my first post I would like to say HI to everyone, and I hope CrunchBang becomes the best Linux distro out there.

Re: Your CrunchBang Linux system

I've got a dell mini 9 upgraded to 2gb ram (from 1gb) and I'm running #! 9.04.01 with excellent results.

My main operating system however is a 16gb usb stick on which I did a full install of 9.04 (that is, it's not a live usb like you would make with unetbootin). That works just as fast as the ssd install on my mini but I haven't tried it on another box yet. I'll edit this post as I check it out on more systems.

same as Garcia82, have exactly the same 701 smile except for the wireless not working during install, not that it was needed

Re: Your CrunchBang Linux system

Hello.
On linux from january.
First Ubuntu Karmic.
Then Mint Helena.
Then Sabayon.
Now Crunchbang 9.04.
I found it quick and i like its design.
No so easy than ubuntu for a very beginer like me.
I appreciate the help from other users.
Sorry for my basic english.
But i learn every day ...On a "old" athlon with an ATI 9200 SE.

Re: Your CrunchBang Linux system

I'm running 9.04 on two machines.

Laptop
Acer Aspire 5613AWLMi
Intel Core Duo 1.86GHz T2350
2GB RAM
GeForce Go 7300 (256mb)
Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG
1280x800 display.

Joggler Picture Frame
1.3GHz Atom (Z520)
7in 800x480 capacitive touch screen
Intel GMA 500
512MB RAM
1GB Flash + 16GB USB flash drive (boots from flash drive)
b/g/n WiFi (I don't know the chipset off hand)

And sometimes on my Netbook (although it's running Chromium OS atm)
Asus eeepc 901
1.6GHz Atom (N270)
2GB RAM
16GB Runcore SSD
Apple Airport b/g wi-fi (I had it running as a hackintosh for a while)

I also have 9.04 and both Statlers as VMs in VirtualBox on my iMac

Next candidate is probably going to be my Acer Revo R3600 Atom/ION Nettop.

Re: Your CrunchBang Linux system

I've been playing with Linux distros for a few weeks. I have CrunchBang 9.04 installed on an ancient Sony Vaio PCG-F707
600 MHz PIII
256 MB RAM
9 GB HDD
1024x768 display
Cheap Atheros 5k PCMCIA WiFi card
Original Docking Station with USB Ethernet

#! Boots in about 90s cool

I liked it so much I also exchanged UNE 10.04 for #! 9.04 on my Dell mini 9. Very fast! cool

Re: Your CrunchBang Linux system

#! Crunchbang Linux works well on this laptop configuration:

CASHE: L1 - 128 kB, L2 - 256 kB
CHIPSET: SiS 740
RAM: 256 MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM (266MHz)
HDD: Samsung IDE 80Gb 5400rpm
OPTICAL DRIVE: Nec 5.25" DVD-RW ATAPI
DISPLAY: 15" TFT LCD 1024 x 768 (XGA)
VIDEO: AGP 4x • based on SiS 740 SDRAM 64MB
AUDIO: AC'97
NETWORK:  • Fast Ethernet 10/100 MB/s IEEE 802.3, IEEE 802.3u
             • WI-FI up to 5.5MB/s IEEE 802.11b
INTERFACES: VGA HD-15F, 4 x USB 2.0 Type A, Ethernet 10/100BaseT RJ-45, telephone line RJ-11, LPT

Almost everything worked immediately after installation, and i use this laptop for work and the good logical games. But the video card works a little slow on the web sites with Adobe flash technology, because the configuration requires some changes for this video chipset. I can not find on the Russian-speaking forums set for him. We'll ask here...
