Here is a little something I sketched up. My drawing skills are quite poor, so please.... Be kind! 
The idea was the # symbol being "crunched" or cracked by the ! symbol coming down upon it.
Didn't try to get fancy with shadows, and my 3D effects is off with my limited skills. But you get the idea. Possibly someone with real talent could do this right.

Still doesn't work for me. Thought it was a Google Chrome problem (at work here on XP) but just tried it in #! in a VM and got a 404 error as well. Here's the screenshot:

Just paste the link in your browser address bar and go their manually. I don't think it likes direct linking.

I'm in no way a graphic artist, but I do have an idea for someone else... after seeing screenshots with the CrunchBang Ninja wallpaper I was thinking that a logo that was similar with let's say a penguin (or maybe some other animal) would be cool. Any takes?

more of exactly the same. The #! is already too perfect a logo so reworks such as the work of rfquerin is probably the best we will get, but here are two slight adjustments.
(did you all notice in the previous #! it forms a number 3 between the # and the ! - this removes that...)

very nice, I like the inverted # combined with the normal !
a few simple dots and lines do the trick
I've taken the liberty and combined your idea with the artwiz snap font
makes it even cleaner (I think):

It is maybe a bit too fiddly for use at smaller sizes though. Maybe the working grid lines would have to be simplified and/or fattened up to work at smaller sizes. Anyway, here it is on both white and darkish backgrounds. I always seem to throw a perspective view in.. just to be fancy I guess.
I've just gone ahead and started using these because they are the best designs in my opinion.

I hope I remember this thread in the morning because I've had the perfect idea for what I want my minimalist desktop to look like and crunchbang has come the closest to what I've wanted, practically and aesthetically, so far. Hopefully I can manage to translate what's in my head to an inkscape file.
Eee 900 with 8GB #! partitions and 12GB windows partitions.

I think (it happens sometimes ) that you should keep the name 'crunchbox linux' or '#! CRUNCHBANG LINUX' : it's more expressive for non-linux users, no ?
(just a question) and it's his name, no ? (just another question)
my '#! CRUNCHBANG LINUX' is not helvetica but bepa
rfquerin : can you do me that ? and put it along the base (from south-west to north-east) 
as you did with 'crunchbang'

This is getting closer I think. The square dots designs previously offered play havoc with my eyes. It took me days to recognise the #! logo in there (all I could see was the squares)
