Re: Logo competition: a discussion about the winning logo

The hash symbol would look better if it were more square IMO.

I'm afraid I disagree. The narrower shape matches the typeface very well. Yet, it maybe depends on whether the text is present or not.

Does anyone else perceive an exciting sort of optical illusion looking at Corenominal's logo-and-text-in-different-sizes suggestion, white on black? I mean that it is, in my eyes at least, almost as if the #! twain made a slightly narrower pair towards the bottom... Which is nice.

For anyone who has been reading this thread, I do not think the following results will come as much of a surprise, still, here are the results from the Launchpad poll:

For - adopt new logo.    8
Against- keep current logo.    25

So, it looks like we are keeping the current #! logo. smile

A big thank you to everyone who voted and contributed to the discussion, you all rock!

I'm getting old so excuse me if I'm confused wink .. but when you say that do you mean the one in that's in the favicon (the one you posted a page up on this thread, with the Nimbus Sans L font) or the one currently residing at the top of the forum and website?

Good question! smile

Personally, I like the way that people have been remixing the #! symbols and using whichever font they like within their custom wallpapers and artwork -- I would hope that this will continue. Regarding the font and logo used for this website and issued with the default Usplash, GDM and wallpaper, I think I will change it to this, but only to navigate around the non-free font issue -- that is if nobody has any objections.

I encourage it.  big_smile

I view KDE like I view snow. It looks fun and marvelous, it's fun to play in, but after a while I just want someone to take it all away.

Re: Logo competition: a discussion about the winning logo

The actual logo part itself would have to be the easiest thing you could ever make in inkscape.

Another +1

Re: Logo competition: a discussion about the winning logo

I think converting things to Phillip's legit logo will be fun. I just made a theme that uses the logo for the maximize and close buttons (# = max, ! = close)...or if you prefer, it uses #! = close and the maximize is the default.

Maybe its something that could be the default (the theme colors dont have to be, Im just refering to the #! for max/close buttonz) for Jaunty#! to help add even more "uniqueness" to a very unique distro.
