Topic: Weird behavior in crunchbang (white pixel)

Hello all!

So I just purchased my first eee pc (1000HE) and I decided to install cruncheee - because crunchbang looked way too interesting to pass up - and I've got everything working so far. However, there is a certain behavior I've noticed and its driving me crazy.

Whenever I start up the PCMan file manager, the top left pixel on my display turns white. It goes away if I drag the window over it, but every time I start up the file manager it does it. Now, Ive downloaded other file managers and this symptom is not exhibited, but I really like PCMan, and I have no idea what could be causing this. Any help would be appreciated!!

Re: Weird behavior in crunchbang (white pixel)

It is not just me then! Blimey, I was thinking this was just a crazy pixel on my screen. Now that I know there are more crazy pixels out there, I will look into it. I do not have my Eee PC with me at the moment, but I will take a look at this as soon as I can.

P.S. Welcome to the forums! smile

Re: Weird behavior in crunchbang (white pixel)

Come to think of it, I have that weirdo pixel as well.

My solution was to change to a white theme, lol.

Re: Weird behavior in crunchbang (white pixel)

And I thought my eee 701 was broken or something! Fortunately, I doesn't bother that much smile

Re: Weird behavior in crunchbang (white pixel)

Awesome, I thought for a second I might have been the only one - but now it seems that I have others who are in the same boat.

Re: Weird behavior in crunchbang (white pixel)

Just wondering if anyone has found a possible cause for this?

It seems that it is also happening in the standard and lite versions of 9.04 (for me anyways).

Re: Weird behavior in crunchbang (white pixel)

This little pixel in the top left corner has happened for me on my fairly standard acer laptop since 8.10.*

Re: Weird behavior in crunchbang (white pixel)

I have that weird little guy as well. I thought it was just me. Funny to find out that everybody else sees it too.

Re: Weird behavior in crunchbang (white pixel)

This might be clutching at straws but the openbox dock default position is the top left, wonder if something is freaking it out?

Re: Weird behavior in crunchbang (white pixel)

my #!-laptop has the same white pixel smile

Re: Weird behavior in crunchbang (white pixel)

i have it too!!

i agree with 'david' and think it is openbox (possibly dock) related.  and, my name happens to be david too, so i we must be right?!

dave.

Re: Weird behavior in crunchbang (white pixel)

same here with 8.10.* on eeePC 901..haven't tried 9.04 until now, because all my USB-Sticks mysteriously vanished.. yikes

Re: Weird behavior in crunchbang (white pixel)

I am not sure if this bug is somehow related.

http://bugzilla.icculus.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3717

If people who do have the problem can try to set the dock to float (as in the bug comments)  to see if it goes away - we might be able to know if it is the dock one way or the other...

Re: Weird behavior in crunchbang (white pixel)

Have the same on my EeePC701 using Cruncheee, glad it wasn't my eyes deceiving me after all smile

Great distro by the way, will be installing 9.04.01 tonight- thank you for your work!

Re: Weird behavior in crunchbang (white pixel)

i fixed it on my computer.

i did as david said and changed my dock to  floating instead of 'top left'

preferences>openbox config>gui config tool>click the dock tab>change position to 'floating'

me happy smile
dave.

UPDATE:  the white pixel dot is back. i'm not sure what i did but, it IS back. (dock is still set to 'floating')

Re: Weird behavior in crunchbang (white pixel)

Yep, I can report the same thing, it has no effect on the pixel regardless of where I set the dock location to. hmm

Re: Weird behavior in crunchbang (white pixel)

When I was using openbox in 8.04.02 I didn't have white spot, but with Pekwm I had it and now that I'm using 9.04.01 and pekwm I don't have it. mysterious. yikes

Re: Weird behavior in crunchbang (white pixel)

I tried all the tricks described here but none worked out for me (Crunchbang 9.04.01 on Compaq CQ60-420us). Each time "pcmanfm" is opened, the white pixel at (0,0) appears. I absolutely love the look of crunchbang so this is really a scratch on a gem. The simpliest workaround i thought is this little script i share with you, just save in a file, make it executable and add it to your autostart.sh

#!/bin/sh

while [ 1 ]
do
xrefresh -geometry 1x1+0+0
sleep 1
done
