OK, as I said before I'm your big fan smile

After a short play with your project-iso, I can say that there is a small "bug" - you should install GTK themes for root, because when you open pcmanfm as root it says there is no GTk themes and pcmanfm is ugly wink

Can you tell me what to do, so I could mount all disks as a regullar user no a root - now I have to open pcmanfm as root, and click my other partitions to have access as regular user sad [using Arch at the moment]

What GTK themes have you installed - pcmamfm look great (have a look at pcmamfm-fuse)
oh, and there is no Abiword nor OpenOffice ...
Great job! As always smile

@klanger - install pysdm and configure your disks:

Re: Madbox : liveUsb / toram

Great work ADcomp! Beautiful and fast on my netbook!

I like the idea of running it in ram, makes the system go fast.. It would be nice to be enable to restore a home directory from the hdd and later save it down. I like to have my browser history, bookmarks and such.

Re: Madbox : liveUsb / toram

How do you make oblogout look like that?

Running Crunchbang on eee pc 701 and Dell Mini 10v.

Re: Madbox : liveUsb / toram

david!-

very nice work. i really like the look and feel off it. of course, its easy to make a transition from #! to madbox. seems to boot pretty fast from usb.

now my issues: i am not too familiar with wicd and i couldnt get on the net. i was able to connect to wifi, great signal, even had to use a wep key but no internet. i read a bit about it but couldnt find any solutions. i am sure its just me. i will try again through an unprotected router. i have a aao. checked that ath5k mod was loaded via lsmod. when i ran route -n it showed 192.168.*.*, so its not the seem problem that i had read a bunch about. not sure how to get it up and running. the only other small issues that i ran into is that a few time that i booted into madbox my aao would hang on exiting.

i am eager to use madbox more! great job. your help getting around my issues is great appreciated.

cheers,
ryan

important update!- i am able to connect via an unsecured network. very cool! seems to be running smoothly. found another issue... can not get videos to play in mplayer or gnome player. i get an error- can not open/initialize video_out (-vo) device...

Re: Madbox : liveUsb / toram

Hello ..

@craigh : take a look  http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … ut-script/

@skewed :
-  I never try wicd with wifi/wep .. so I don't know where is the problem.
-  For video/mplayer , try with an other video output ( vo ) .. maybe something like that :  mplayer -vo xv my_video.ext

I updated image iso : there is nothing really to get excited about this but lets take a look at the list of changes ..

+ ubiquity ( simple graphical live CD installer )
+ pysdm ( a PyGTK Storage Device Manager )
+ w32codecs,  libdvdcss2, mozilla-mplayer ( plugin for firefox )
+ tools :  testdisk , ddrescue , mdadm, dvd+rw-tools ,smartmontools , partimage ,  inxi , qemu ...

~ 380 Mo ..  image iso is being uploaded

Hi, Adcomp!

Thank's so much! Madbox 9.04 and 9.10.01 running from live-usb would freeze on my desktop-machines (Athlon XP; Nforce2-Chipset, Nvidia-Graphics...) about 5 seconds after entering the desktop. No more mouse, no keyboard, nothing.

Now 9.10.02 just works like a charm! Have meanwhile installed it on harddisk(s), and am beginning to crunchify... smile

One small glitch: I choose autologin on install, but after reboot was greated by slim with the default username "madbox". Had to manually edit the default user in the slim.conf.
Second glitch: Shutdown and reboot from oblogout didn't work after harddisk-install. Added this line to /etc/sudoers: "USER ALL=NOPASSWD: /sbin/halt, /sbin/reboot". Now it's working. EDIT: This didn't really work as i thought. For a working solution look on page 4 of thhis thread!

Otherwise no probs at all till now.  Seeing the comments on karmic in the Cruchbang 9.10 - thread this just makes me big_smile (happy!)

EDIT: Upgrading the "shared-mime-info" package from 0.60-2 to 0.70 breaks all the file-associations in PCManFm. Downgrading to 0.60 fixed that problem. Gdebi complained about not beeing able to downgrade, so i had to install the XFE - Filemanager, which has a builtin install-option for debs. Thunar by the way,  is not affected by this upgrade issue...

Hello ,

Autologin is for gdm and I don't know how to do same for slim after install .. neutral

Yes ,  I know .. But ubiquity modify /etc/sudoers after install. So my change doesn't work ..

In slim.conf just enable the default user, uncomment the line for auto_login, and set it to true.

smile  yes , I know .. autologin is already working but I don't know how to change username in slim.conf with ubiquity ( when install ). So user have to do it 'by hand' after install ..

Re: Madbox : liveUsb / toram

I made a live usb with unetbootin and it worked very well, I love the look, it was fast but I didn't found out how to activate my wireless card...

Keep the work going!

Statler: Are you running Mac or PC?

Waldorf: After that... I'm running away!

Re: Madbox : liveUsb / toram

Re: Madbox : liveUsb / toram

ADcomp, very nice MadBox, running it on my EeePC. Also quite impressed with your XFCE version but I prefer the Openbox better! Still, looking forward to check your next XFCE version. smile Keep it up, seems very well balanced and fine tuned.

My suggestion: include the "python-software-properties" software package pre-installed so that we can use the karmic "add-apt-repository" command out of the box.

Cool, ADcomp. I will test as soon as I finish the download. If I may I would like to make a small suggestion, try to update the iso in the first post, so we know it's the latest (I started to download the file twice before downloading the last one: D)

Virus? What virus?

Re: Madbox : liveUsb / toram

Hi Madcomp, I'm using your distro and everything is working ok. I'm using the live cd in the computer of my niece and all the basic works fine. Once I have time I'll test on my notebook. The distro is lightweight and beautiful, good job. As I'm using I'll post the results here
