i made this FLAC-file with audacity on crunchbang because i found no software on windows which could cope with / encode an >8.00 GB (wave-)file:

I like the Xfce community edition of Mint 8. Nice 'n' easy, better and safer than Xubuntu Karmic in my opinion. I have not experienced any network issues on mine. But I suggest that your question is better asked in their forums than in this one. http://forums.linuxmint.com
