I've already got the Lite RC installed, is there any point in installing this? Pretty new to Linux so updating distros isn'r something I've done. I've installed Ubuntu-Eee replacing Xandros and installed #! replacing Ubuntu, but no particular reason to install CrunchEee is there?

Hello TucknDar smile

Just to be clear, if you already have CrunchBang running on your Eee PC, there is absolutely no reason to install this. It has simply been put together for new CrunchBang Eee PC users. wink

Excellent, thank you Andrew. As always, your support is really appreciated!

Re: CrunchEee 8.10.01 Release Candidate 1

Installed no problems on a 701 4gb and wifi worked out of the box. That in itself is worthy of a thank you.... so.... thank you big_smile

I'll keep playing - it looks good so far.

Edit: brightness function keys works but not volume - but no criticism, I was expecting that! I'm playing with samba and smbnetfs now.

On my eee (900) eee-control needs to be installed from the ubuntu repository and then activated with the command eee-control-tray , this gives the ability to easily turn on / off completely wifi, camera, plus cpu scaling.

I tried installing a eee-control I have on my drive (0.83) with dpkg and got told:

zen@Eve:~/Desktop$ sudo dpkg -i eee-control_0.8.3_all.deb
[sudo] password for zen:
Selecting previously deselected package eee-control.
dpkg: regarding eee-control_0.8.3_all.deb containing eee-control:

What gives?  I didn't install eeepc-config...

The eeepc-config package is installed by default. Try removing it before installing the eee-control package.

sudo apt-get autoremove eeepc-config

That did it.

BTW - you may want to make a note that python is required for eee-control, if you are going to include it by default.

Re: CrunchEee 8.10.01 Release Candidate 1

hi, i've been looking at the forums for a few weeks now but decided to post due to the recent cruncheee release.

i tried this today and have had exactly the same problem that i've had with the standard version of #!
that being: skype just doesn't work

sometimes the mic works, sometimes it doesn't...and when it does work, the sound is very choppy (as if i'm having connection problems)
this doesn't happen when using skype in Windows XP, and it's highly annoying because this is the only thing that's stopping me from migrating completely over to #! as my main OS

does anyone have any pointers?

Re: CrunchEee 8.10.01 Release Candidate 1

I tested skype today (eee900)- to begin with I could not make a test call to test the sound etc. When someone called me I can confirm that the sound was choppy and that the video froze for seconds at a time .

I have nothing to compare to so cannot be sure if this is a ubuntu , crunchbang or eee bug

Re: CrunchEee 8.10.01 Release Candidate 1

lol lol I was posting in this thread yesterday and didn't even notice the title of the thread roll Congratulations on your Christmas present corenominal. My angst now grows stronger at not owning one of these great little machines.

I know it's little or no consolation but it's a problem you could have with a vanilla Ubuntu install on an Eee.

I eventually solved the problem on my 701 by playing around with the capture/mic settings in alsamixer (run it from a terminal session) and testing with SoundRecorder. Make sure that you have 'capture' level up & your input source set  for the i-mic (internal). You'll need the i-mic boost at around 33... but it is trial and error.

hi, thanks for replying smile

unfortunately i've tried messing around with the audio settings and still get nowhere. both the sound input and output on Skype are really choppy. to be honest i think it may have something to do with the Wireless driver...

i'm gonna try hooking direct into my router by ethernet to see if my theory is correct.

i'll let people know my results

Re: CrunchEee 8.10.01 Release Candidate 1

Hi all,
I'm having an issue with CrunchEee on my 701- whenever I press the power button, the machine immediately shuts down even though the button action is set to "Ask" and gnome power manager is in the autostart. Any thoughts? BTW, great work, corenomial!

Thank you,
Allen

Re: CrunchEee 8.10.01 Release Candidate 1

Meh, I was just about to remastersys my custom crunchbang lite taylored for the eee when I saw your smile
I added pyNeighborhood titla and packed pigdin with the facebook and skype pluging plus added ghamashi mplayer-mozilla
you might want to consider some of these for the next RC smile

Unfortunately, it didn't do it completely:

zen@Eve:~$ eee-control-tray &

zen@Eve:~$ Can't access shared memory area. SHMConfig disabled?

Any  more ideas?

Re: CrunchEee 8.10.01 Release Candidate 1

is it only skype woh have an choopy sound or whenever you play and audio file?
etiher way when my sound freaks i do
sudo alsa force-reload
sudo /etc/init.d/asla restart

I would aslo recommend elmurato's ACPI script for those who have compatible eee models.

Oh, yeah... And I will of course test it once I'm back from my Dutch binge vacation. I'll post some feedback in the new year...:)

Are most of you going with solid state?

Re: CrunchEee 8.10.01 Release Candidate 1

The eee specific kernel and tools... are those opensource or are they closed source?
Just wondering what will happen when Asus stops supporting the eee.

100% - That's a big reason for having a netbook IMO.
