Re: CrunchEee 8.10.01 Release Candidate 1
This is a issue with enabling SHMConfig on the Touchpad. You need to modify your xorg.conf to pick this up, or modify the HAL policy files to enable the fuctionality, either way is a ballache ![]()

I installed #! on my EeePC 1000HA a while ago (v8.10.1). Truth be told, I loved it! Beautiful flavor of 'buntu! A couple of things drove me back to the "official" variants though (now running Xubuntu/ Array kernel/Elmurato scripts)
Call me a stickler, but if I am going to consider any OS a replacement for Windows, I need it to support all the bells and whistles on my netbook. This included ACPI keys, external display (this does work in #! but is cumbersome), etc. I could care less about OSD, but I need the keys to do what they were meant to, lol. I know some people never use them, but I do.
W/ Xubuntu, I can get everything working beautifuuly in less than an hour. In fact, I actually get MORE functionality that I would under Windows, as i can manually program all 4 hotkeys to run whatever I want them to. (Windows only allows 2)
I brought it up once before, but I can't fathom why the Elmurato scripts refuse to work on !#... my only guess is that they are dependant on some components that are not installed.
Does anyone have an idea of how to get the ACPI keys working as they should? Or how to Iron out the external display issue?
If I could get that far, then I'd happily go get baptized in the !# river, hahaha.
Cheers to all!

On my eeepc 900 I have a lot of succes with this: http://greg.geekmind.org/eee-control/
also, I just totally screwed up my crunchbang installation by resizing the partition, I just got everything 100% superwicked working
)
I have been using elmurato's scripts on my 1000HA with great success... does eee-control provide full support for the ACPI function keys, including the external display? Sorry for the noobish question, I have not had any experience w/eee-control to date.
If eee-control will work just as well as elmurato's ACPI scripts, then I will do a clean wipe and install !# tonight. More than likely the full version though, then just tailor it as needed.

#! looks neat and I'm trying to get it installed on my EEE 701. I've got the iso and used unetbootin to load it on my USB key.
I think my problem is generic rather than a #! problem, but I just cannot get the boot menu to come up. I've hit Esc milliseconds after I hit the power button. I've tried waiting just a fraction before I hit Esc but no avail. Every time I'm greeted with the disappointing sight of the ASUS boot up screen ![]()
Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas?

Hello dewang ![]()
I am not sure if this will help as I have a different model, but are you hitting the escape key too early? On my system I have to hit escape when I see the ASUS bios screen.
P.S. Welcome to the forums!

Hi Dewang, I had the same problem on my eee 900ha. Not sure if my solution will help with your 701, but worth a try.
At boot, press F2 to enter the bios. Go to the Boot submenu and make sure Boot Booster is set to Disabled. Save the settings and reboot. Can you press Esc now?
If not, the other option is to press F2 for the bios, then Boot, then check under either Boot Devices or Hard Drives and set the order so that the USB device is first.
Hope that helps!
Hi there,
I have a 701 4G eee with ubuntu-eee installed and wanted to try out cruncheee. (mainly as I find the default interface with ubuntu eee too restricting and it's slow.)
Anyway, I downloaded the iso and unetbootin from the start of this thread and put on a usb stick. (I checked the md5 sum and it was fine). I then did a check on the usb stick after booting from it on the eee and it shows all correct.
However when I run the install it gets as far as showing me the linux cursor (that X) on a blank screen and hangs. When I kill the x-server I see the following:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/ubiquity-dm", line 267, in (module)
ret = dm.run(*sys.argv[3:1])
File "usr/bin/ubiquity-dm!, line 193, in run
"No window manager found (tried metacity, xfwm4, matchbox-window-manager)"
_main_.MissingProgramError: No window manager found (tried metacity, xfwm4, matchbox-window-manager)
* Starting System Tools Backends system-tools-backends [fail]
* Starting deferred execution scheduler atd [OK]
* Starting periodic command scheduler crond [OK]
* Checking battery state... [OK]
If I launch it off the usb stick directly the live version loads and runs perfectly.
Any ideas?

Hello eoin ![]()
Sorry to read you have been experiencing issues with the installer. As you have found out, the installer option from unetbootin fails due to the lack of a compatible window manager. I am not too sure what I can do about it, I may have to contact the unetbootin devs and ask them if it would be possible to somehow remove the option. Meanwhile, the easiest method of installing CrunchEee is to select the "live" option at boot and perform the installation using the install item from Openbox's main menu.
Thank you for the feedback, it is appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply.
And wa-hey is now installed and working.

Thanks for that. I didn't disable the Boot Booster, but when I hit F2 and then exited the BIOS screen I got the boot device list. Strange!
#! installed now and looking great!
Thanks again and thanks corenominal.
I installed this on an sd card fully (as opposed to running live) and it works perfectly. I am very pleased. The only thing that gives me some trouble is that the touchpad seems a bit sensitive and I don't know how (or if) I can adjust it. I used a 1000 model and installed by using a usb cdreader and using install from the main menu.

Hi!
I got my 901 a few days ago and after using the default xandros for a few seconds i installed cruncheee and its working good but i have a few problems. I tried using eee-control instead of eeepc-config but when i unplugged the power, X hangs and the screen got all messed up so i reinstalled cruncheee and now the speakers randomly get turned on with a loud static noise.
Has anyone had similar problems? I didnt find anything when searching the forums.
Thanks for this nice distro!

Hi Khtaam, I don't have a 901 personally, but I have read about this problem before. It is a problem with the eeepc kernel, not with Cruncheee specifically: http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=50486
Greetings Crunchbang crew, I was recently searching around the EEEuser forums and stumbled across Crashbang and was interested immediately. My one issue is I purchased a Logitech wireless mouse with the nano reciever. I would love to continue to use it, as I'm very against using touchpads, long story.
Anywho, I'm running XP SP3 (used nLite) on an EeePC 901 (came with Linux installed) 4GB primary SDD and an extra 16GB SSD.
Does anyone know of an opensource driver I could use, or if the mouse would work from a fresh install?
Thanks and I await your responce, in the mean time, I'm downloading Cruncheee and burning it ![]()

if you're referring to the Logitech vxNano mouse, it should just work "out of the box"
as far as i'm aware, the nano receiver just acts as a intermediary between your wireless mouse and the computer. as far as the computer is concerned, it thinks the mouse is connected by a wired usb cable. at least, that's what happened when i had mine.
Awwe this thread makes me want a eee!
So witch model is the best one? For #! I mean?
Not that I'm buying one just for #! or at all for that mater.. This is just out of curiosity.
Quick question about the eee as well, does any of the models have an internal 3g modem?

No....or I would be very tempted to order one right now.
Ohh to bad... otherwise I would buy one. As fast as I could!
I installed Cruncheee on this 701 4G linux model (one of the first eee to show up). I noticed in the package manager there is
- eeepc-acpi-scripts
- eee-control
- eee-applet
Has anyone try these? (Just asking before I try installing them).
Bottom line: do I need all of them? There are some overlap between these three, correct?
Sheng-Chieh
Just installed Cruncheee on an 8GB SDHC for my eeePC 701. Great job. I have tried almost all of the eee-specific distros around, but was never pleased with the performance before.
This one is a keeper!
corenominal - Congrats on a great distro!!!

There is eee pc 901 go which has a internal 3g modem, atleast here in sweden.
Hi everyone,
First post on the forum - hi!
I've been playing with Crunchee live on my 4G surf, and it's great! I'd like to install it on my 8G SDHC card, but I have a couple of problems preventing it:
1. When I choose "install" from the liveCD main menu, the installer does not recognise my SDHC card. In fact, it only gives me the option to install on SDD (sda1). For work reasons, I need my winXP installation on the SDD ![]()
I believe that this issue can be got around by choosing "install" from the boot menu, instead of the live environment. But, that leads me to my second problem:
2. The installer hangs with the X cursor, similar to others' posts in this thread.
Can anyone help me install #! to my SD card?
Thanks in advance, and thanks for a great eee-specific distro!
Lee
Edit: never mind, I reformatted the card (again - 3rd time) from within the live install, and it then recognized it this time. weird!

Hi.
Just put Cruncheee on a usb stick with unetbootin, did esc and boot menu ok, tried to boot the default setting on my eee 701 2GB surf and it shut down.
Tried again and the eee shut down straight away.
Took out the stick, turned on eee and it shut down straight away.
The stick had two partitions on a 2.6 FAT one and a 0GB according to Windows but probably 1.4GB one probably in a "linuxy" format. I had tried Nimblex on the stick but deleted it to clean it up". I had installed Crunchee to the 2.6GB partition on Windows.
If I leave the eee a little while between tries I get a brief flash of the grey eee screen, if I turn it back on straight away the two little green lights just come on and go off again.
I hope this does not discourage people as I am very bad at computers!
Any ideas? Directions to other forums very welcome too.
Thanks,
Tim
