Topic: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

Have seen in a couple of threads a mention of the default dark theme for #!... It seems to sums up the #! minimalist philosophy perfectly but I still found it to be the first thing I changed. I didn't download any new ones and am still running in openbox, but found the theme very bleak and uninviting...
Not because its dark, my menus are still in black but use the glossy onxy and taqua options.

Just curious if anyone is actually using the default theme?

Are you constantly having feelings of depression and anxiety? smile

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I use the Crunchbang Openbox and GTK themes frequently but that wallpaper was the first thing out the door.

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

Perhaps we need a default wallpaper and theme competition, a little inspiration for crunchy koala? Without trying to make it look like vista in the process tongue

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I think the wallpaper serves the purpose of encouraging you to build your environment for yourself. There are other walls included in the distro with a much lighter feel.

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

Id considering staying on the Crunchbang dark GTK theme but the white outline on the Firefox url and search bars annoys me:

And I don't care much for the new Openbox themes. I like the 8.10 theme better.

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I was running the default theme for quite a while but then changed the Openbox theme to something different. I still kept the original gtk theme.

Running Crunchbang on eee pc 701 and Dell Mini 10v.

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I ran the default for a long time as well. I think it's well designed, but for the people that don't like the dark maybe have a script that will change all the relevant themes to a lighter one easily(a la opengeu's day and night themes)

I say never be complete, I say stop being perfect, I say lets evolve, let the chips fall where they may.

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

kept the 8 series one until i upgraded. am on the latest now and have grown to really like the new lighter theme. i have changed the 'nselected_bg_color' to blue though.

very neutral and unobtrusive.

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

The only thing I change is the background.

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

Personally I prefer the gperfection icons+gtk2 themes along with the operfection openbox theme like so:

Lately Ive been using the Mire orange openbox theme, plain tango icons and Mire V2 Orange gtk2

(A Clockwork Orange is my favorite movie ever!)

Maybe I am biased, but I run the default theme, including the default wallpaper. I like that it does not distract from what I am working on. smile

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I like the default. It gives CrunchBang its identity smile

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

The text only instead of icons only is a bit annoying. In fact, I love playing with GTK/Openbox/Qt themes and tinkering with the tint2 config, so this might change about every week.

I'm so meta, even this acronym

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I like the default theme and wallpaper a lot!
... and I use them!
On the other hand I like to change the look of my desktop regularly

The default is inspiration for keeping a minimalistic approach!
So I change things but I stay with a theme or wallpaper which keeps
in my eyes the look and feel of the original style
cool

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I changed my default theme after seeing some of the amazing work some guys have done with their interfaces over in the screenshot threads.

But I actually quite like the the default theme - I just love making my machine unique and attractive to me, but also specially customized to suite MY needs better than any other OS (which Linux allows you to do).

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I changed to dark theme for OBmenu, and changeed wallpaper in something relaxing green..

This is something about personal and subjective taste and everyone has right smile

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I used the defaults for a while.  I had to change the theme to the cb dark.  I do not like the current theme, there is no contrast.  It's just to much gray.  I do use the defaults background.

I really like the default theme for 8.10.

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I ran the defaults for quite a while. Then I changed to onyx-black on OB. Then changed the background... And only just then did I change the GTK theme. I changed all that nearly immediately when I installed it on my laptop though tongue

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

actually the best sunny theme I have seen is with opengeu, of course I did like the night theme better, but they did a great job with theming. If your interested in e17 I would check it out, I still prefer #! by far, but it's fun to mess around with every once in a while.

Same. The default theme is perfect for me. Maybe I will look for something different on box-look, but not now :)

He He He.... I would avoid switching from grey straight to yellow, maybe ease yourself in with ubuntu brown or open suse green to adjust tongue

Second thoughts,,, maybe not brown

Adding the line

GtkEntry::honors-transparent-bg-hint = 1

to the gtkrc under

style "default"

fixes this in ff 3.5 but not in 3.0

Re: Default #! Theme... Does anyone actually keep using it?

I didn't find the default theme aesthetically revolting or anything, but I tend to avoid "cool-looking" themes for a couple reasons.  They are usually all either too bright (milk) or too dark (onyx), or have too little contrast (#! default) or too much contrast (tropic-bomb).  All the ones I mention are ones that I like, and which look cool in the preview screenshots, but when I get to actually using them my eyes beg me to change them.  OS X and Ubuntu's defaults do the same thing to me... I constantly find myself reverting to the Redmond gtk theme and a Windows 20000-style OB/Tint2 configuration I made for myself.  Some things just work!

Only having a bit of fun. Whatever works for you and Linux is fine with me smile
