Topic: [solved]trouble with shortcuts

hi,

i installed crunchbang 8.04.2 today on virtualbox 2.1. everything went well (what a fantastic distro) but after installing the guest-additions, i found out that
everytime i hit a key like "o" for instance, it acts like a shortcut. so if i try to type sudo in a shell it opens openoffice straight away. it is pretty annoying because i can't even edit any conf file..
i didn't find any workaround so far, so if somebody has a hint for me i'll be glad to find a solution.

Hello foox smile

Sorry to read you have been experiencing difficulties with the keyboard shortcuts. It sounds as if trying to disable the shortcuts while Openbox is running is going to be difficult. Have you tried dropping out of X to edit the shortcuts file? e.g.

  • Hit <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<F1> to drop to a console and login as normal.

  • Edit the shortcuts file vim ~/.config/openbox/rc.xml. Save and exit.

  • Hit <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<F7> to return to your X session.

Hope this helps.

P.S. Welcome to the forums! smile

Re: [solved]trouble with shortcuts

thanks for answering so fast..

well actually since i'm using crunch bang as guest os on virtualbox, and that my host os in kubuntu using ctrl+alt+F1 will make X on the real machine to restart.
i tried a recovery session but when i choose the rootshell, i get this message asking me for a password that i don't have. (at least mine didn't work)

i also opened (in graphical mode)  rc.xml and the key-combination was W+o for openoffice. I probably will have to change this into Super+o, right ?

again thanks for helping me out..

Re: [solved]trouble with shortcuts

so now i went through a new installation with the 8.10 version (it worked out pretty well comparing to the previous 4/5 attemps that didn't work)
shortkeys don't work at all but this is probably because the system doesn't want to use my french keyboard (even after editing xorg.conf).

i think i'll open a new post because this is a different problem..

thanks

Re: [solved]trouble with shortcuts

hi again !

i got the final answer : after searching i found out that the virtualbox guest additions are faulty and prevent the system to use a french keyboard.
the solution is then to download the previous version (2.06)  of the guest additions and use them instead of the 2.10.

if this can help...

I am glad to read you have managed to get this sorted. Thank you for sharing your solution! smile

Re: [solved]trouble with shortcuts

hi,

here's the final point to this problem : everything is fine now since there is a virtualbox update (2.1.12) that fixes the problem and you can also have functionnal 3d support..
