Lol I love what I'm doing & You learn more by listening to the requests of people ![]()
willxtreme: If I can, I will host ArchBang on Demonoid and other sites if you like. Now that I got a dedicated torrent box :3
Let me know if you like this idea or not, may help out in the future (potential).
Also, once I get this up and running as a standalone OS, I'll see if I can help further with tweaking/optimization.

well with that said, lets see if i can make futher hints towards things...
/home/user'sname/.config/dmenu/dmenu-bind.sh is where the user copy of dmenu is kept, i forget where the man one is (and do we have a gui file search yet?)... but, unless i changed it, the default is thus:
#!/bin/bash
exe=`dmenu_path | dmenu -nb '#000000' -nf '#FFFFFF' -sb '#FFFFFF' -sf '#000000'` && eval "exec $exe"gui file search... catfish seems popular with the crunchbangers. i'm more of a fan of searchmonkey, as it's fuller featured, and you dont have to change the default search location from the application's folder with the mouse every time u want to search for something. i dont know what else arch may offer in this area.
Deluge? seriously? i mean, i like it, if i'm on my big ol hefty machine with all the juice and hd space in the world, but i woulda thought rtorrent , or at least transmission (my pref these days) woulda been where archbang was going. effectively all the same features we'll ever need, and leaving loads more room for something else.
you could also check out the most comon mentioned firefox addons, and add them to shiretoko. http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic
ox-addons/ (link to other addons thread in this one a few posts down)
(incidentally, my essentials (and faves) are now: Better Privacy, Video Download Helper, NoScript, FlashBlock, AdBlock, Compact Menu, TabMix Plus, Ghostery, Stealther, Stratini, and a couple others which i think most people would be less interested in)
you can then, making sure it's clean of any private data, copy the mozilla config folder, and use it as the default, and all the expansions will be installed. ![]()
ooh, still need screenshot keypress capability it seems. i'll bet there's a few bits n bobs to be syphoned from the default crunchbang configs yet, (and some new innovations too). openbox's rc.xml, menu.xml (though the menu is looking pretty sweet already), autostart.sh (like tilda, surely), the firefox configs idea i suggested already, dmenu, tint2 & conky already pretty much look the part, and presumably a couple others i've overlooked in that shortlist.
GHex.... nice.
never seen that before. i like. ![]()
good one on the inclusion of useful help files online in the menu, tho i foresee you'll want to put that in it's own submenu at some point as that list grows.
luvvin the themes this comes with. darkvision, v plush. should save a little more battery power yet.
speaking of dark,
that beebot is pretty cool, but i know my battery lasts longer the less light n white i show on screen... so may i suggest something more like the following if you insist on keeping the beebot:
just a quick n shoddy job. i could tidy that up n make it much prettier yet. i just wanted to give you an idea.
or, in fitting with following on archbang's heritage:

stay tuned folks, u can be sure willxtreme has more treats in store. ![]()
how ya getting on looking into installers?
1.03 is out!
nice. I can't test it right now (working), but I'll sure will.
-64 bit version eventually even though my system is 32 bit lol...& I'm currently broke :P
I have a 64bit laptop, so if you give some instructions/script I can build it.
Allright Digit noted ![]()
As for a 64 bit version, it might not be necessary with pae according to godane ![]()
As for the installer, someone pointed me to larchin but the author of it said that version 7 wasn't finished yet (the version with a gui) he's pretty busy with work you can see his post it's #39 at this link.

how long would it take to do greps n diffs n mergers n git pushes n pulls etc n all that other related stuff i've never really done, for cd sized archbang distro community dev mania? is using something like git (and any of those other tools) viable for something distro sized? just pondering the future(s) for the bangs.
willxtreme,
I appreciated fast and stable system. I'll try ArchBang today or tomorrow. Then will see
.
Suggestion:
Swiftfox instead Firefox. Swiftfox is optimized for i686 and lighter & faster (according to http://service.futuremark.com/peacekeep
x.action).
Gnote instead of XPad. Much faster IMO.
Audacious instead of Exaile. Faster, lighter and output sound quality is the best of all players I've tried (VLC, Rhythmbox, Exaile, ..)
Well, that not so much trouble to replace apps manually.
For myself, plan to install also Speedcrunch, Claws-mail, GTKam, maybe Osmo.
Regards!
@IgorP - But aren't Arch packages themselves already optimized for i686?
Anonymous,
Yes it does. I've read on Arch forums that is Swiftfox from AUR lighter and with smaller mem. footprint.
Not to much relative to Firefox, but in some percent is.
Regards!

1.04 is out in the wild!
We went "lite mode" ![]()
so to answer you
Chromium instead of FF
xpad has been removed
exaile is gone too (just VLC)

dling.
i hope it goes slowly, so i can spend more time reading up on how to "sed". gah, you n yer archbang distractions willxtreme. ^_^ how's a guy to get anything done, i just cant say no! ![]()
You have done a great job willxtreme!!! I can't wait for the installer! ![]()
So I've been watching these developments very closely since ArchBang 1.03, and with 1.04's release, I might want to try it out
!!
I was just wondering- what does corenominal think of all this? AFAIK, he's been looking at other options for future #! releases (such as Debian base and some even suggested Xubuntu base). I like Ubuntu for its wide variety of repository packages- but I also like performance. I wouldn't mind seeing corenominal supporting this project either and still carrying the project on in his own direction
.
EDIT:: Lucky that Pacman is easy to learn, else I would've been so confused as to how to get the system working.

^ I'd be happy to see the minimal-install-plus-CrunchBang-setup-script ported for other base distros and package managers, so we could have ArchBang, SliBang, DamnSmallBang (that sounds wrong
), PupBang (that sounds wronger
) etc.
Last edited by pvsage (2010-02-07 19:26:48)
you said pupbang ~ chuckles
We should find a distro that we could abbreivate to or is called 'Lets', then we could make 'LetsBang' or perhaps we could merge #! with #! and get 'BangBang!'
Hahaha.

Sorry slapfish, but I was thinking more like this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FP80PWZTCUg
Wow...this is an amazing cover!!! I've never heard it before!!! If I had, we will be thinking the same thing ![]()
Thanks...
p.s. Jack sings: "...and I was white..." ![]()
Any update on the installer? I'm eager to give this a go. ![]()

Glad you like it, you can find a lot of covered on the raconteurs live cd.
Also, this project interests me. I'm experimenting with arch at moment, but heck an easy way to start it up would be nice (seems i reinstall a lot)
Any update on the installer? I'm eager to give this a go.
I've been playing with the 1.04 x64 LiveCD and I'm also waiting for the installer. It runs great on my Asus laptop but I'd like to install it
and start customizing.
Thanks for the great job so far!
Me & sHyLoCk are working on it. I'm pretty busy with school these times lol. I can tell you already that the version with the installer will be 2.00 so don't miss that one ![]()
EDIT: the connection at my school is so slow that it doubled posted lol... (even google takes FOREVERRRRRRRRRRR TO LOAD) ![]()
Last edited by willxtreme (2010-02-11 17:33:28)
I can help you with school, send me your homework or essays and I can free some time for you ![]()
