Afaik there is none. Feel free to create one though.
Hi, Saab driver(??)
1. What's a Folding Team?
2. Does #!Crunchbang *need* a Folding Team?
(Does the envelope need to be folded?)
And...welcome.

1. Folding@home: http://folding.stanford.edu/
2. Need? No
I used to contribute to Distributed Computing a lot back in the day, (Folding@home, Rosetta@home, and Einstein@home primarily) kind of fell off when I started using the laptop as my primary computer.
Now that #! Crunchbang has got my old rig up and running again, I'd be interested in getting started back up with a team!
I'm in! Just tell me how to get started.
(or point me to some good links--I can read
)
For install Folding@home on Ubuntu, I like this script:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Foldi ah_install
Here a a couple more links to the Stanford install instructions:
Linux Uniprocessor Client
Linux Multiprocessor (SMP) Client
[edit]You can also fold on GPUs and other things, but I've not gotten caught up with that whole topic...seems pretty advanced, plus my graphics cards aren't good enough. Not sure if that's available for linux or not...**shrug**[/edit]
The top section of the following page has links to some of the answers to common questions when starting out.
Main Download Page w/ FAQ links
It's been a long time, I will have to relearn all the tweaks and what not!
Will also be trying out anonymous's ubuntu install script. ![]()
I did a Team search and didn't see a reference to #! or Crunchbang...I'm assuming there isn't a team number yet?
900i were you wanting to set that up?

If the free computer I have is a 1.7GHz with 1GB RAM, do I dare even bother?
I would, I plan on using an old 1 GHz with 384MB RAM.
You should be good to go for the standard workunits. Maybe even some of the 'big/advanced' but i'm not sure of the specs for them.
As long as the comp completes the unit before the deadline, it's a go.
@stopie - Sure why not.

@stopie - Sure why not.
Maybe I read too many GPU folding threads - it just seemed like my contribution of 1 unit/day might be useless compared to those raking in the thosands/day. But I dont know if folding is like voting where one vote really doesnt matter because of an electoral college, or if it really does help in a practical sense.
LIke Matt3223 said. As long as you can complete units on time then all is well. Also if you're worried about memory usage, do NOT choose to receive the advanced/big units.
this is a bit of a concern I have, I will have to look into it some more, however my thinking is that the GPU clients are limited to certain types of projects that fit well with however the GPUs do their deal.
Other presumably equally important projects are still limited to being distributed to CPUs for processing.
**shrug**
I feel what your saying though, especially since unit turnaround is so important.
But, a lot of people are running "in their spare time", though on my old machine I plan on running units as close to 24 hours a day, so that should make up for lack of speed a bit versus someone with a 2.5 dual core that runs for 2 hours over the course of the day, turns it off and forgets to restart for a week, etc....
[edit - fixed a few typos]

For GPU folding you first need a compatible video card.
For ATI its should be a X2xxx (R6xx) series or newer and for NVIDIA it should be an 8 series or newer (complete list here).
You kids just might get me back into the folding scene ![]()
Seems I was asleep, just checked back and found all these replys. I was thinking we could give it a go if there are any spare rigs about. Sadly I only have a small laptop which will be next to useless, but I can get my dual core rig at work to do some work. What name shall we decide on, Team #!, or CrunchBang Folders, need more suggestions. How about Fold, Crunch and Bang.

How about "#! Crunchers"?
How about "#! Crunchers"?
Nice
I like #! Crunchers. !
As long as the #! symbol is in there...otherwise just crunchers would be pretty nonspecific. with crunching being a common term for working on work units. well...F@H is folding, but BOINC etc say crunching often...
anyway, #! Crunchers is cool. ![]()
[edit - more spelling]

cool, used the instructions from the linux uniprocessor instructions and things went smooth as silk. copy/paste line by line.
running with the old team until we get a #! Crunchers team number. ooohh... just realized it'll take me probably a week to finish this unit! hmmm guess I will find out if I can change teams in the middle of a unit.
To answer your question, yes you can change teams before a unit finishes. Just edit your client.cfg files with the info for the new team.
I took an Origami class once . . . does that count ?
If those that are interested are happy with #! Crunchers as a team name I will head on over to http://folding.stanford.edu/ to set this up.
*gives a nod*
