Hi rock_mumbles, I'd suggest sharing your networking specifics with the forums so we can help. If you don't know, you can find out which wireless card you have using the terminal command 'lspci'.
wicd is not "missing" from CrunchBang; network-manager was chosen as the default. You can install wicd from the repositories if you prefer it (there's a tutorial somewhere here on the forums...)
Good luck and welcome to the forums! I will try to help if you tell us more about your hardware.
I have an pcmcia card that uses the airo_cs module, it did work with a manual iwconfig ifup at first and then after a reboot or two it refused to work, Network-Manager or whatever it is said I was trying to use a nonexistent interface.
I have never had much luck with wireless unless I use wicd. So my "real" question is; I've found wicd to be much superior to other network tools so why is it not included "out of the box"?
If I can't get my wireless up and I don't have a wired network how am I supposed to get a new package?
Oh, I know use Puppy linux to download the deb and then boot back into #! and dpkg -i it ??????
CrunchBang is based on Ubuntu; Ubuntu uses network-manager as the default, so does #!. Future releases might use wicd by default, who knows? ![]()
Sorry but I am not familiar with the airo_cs card.
But if it worked once, you shouldn't need to install any new packages to make it work again, just modify the settings somehow...
@rock_mumbles - You are not the first (nor possibly last) person to want Wicd instead of Network-Manager:
