Topic: Do you Squeeze/Sidbang?

OK, I'm curious. How many of us are running our own Crunchang style efforts based on some form of Debian (i.e. Lenny, Squeeze or Sid)?

Below is mine based on Squeeze and Xfce. Not openbox I know but it looks pretty much the same as my old Crunchbang desktop (tint2, conky and other packages).

It's time to fess up! big_smile

P.S. You don't have to post a screenshot (but feel free to). A simple description or a 'me too!' will suffice as well smile

Re: Do you Squeeze/Sidbang?

me too ! (#! clone with debian testing as base)

Re: Do you Squeeze/Sidbang?

I run an OB Sid/Squeeze as a backup system on my laptop, actually setting it up got me on all these W+foo keybinds... Now seriously considering going OB with my main OS (also Sid), but I don't really have the time to properly set it up ATM.

Re: Do you Squeeze/Sidbang?

I do too - squeezebang that is - by the means of you making it so much easier omns. And I must say that I've never experienced any better or easier linux dist as this. It just runs. Period.

I think I may have worded the original post awkwardly. Feel free to post screenshots as well big_smile

They aren't essential however if you just want to let us know what you are working with at the moment smile

Re: Do you Squeeze/Sidbang?

Currently Sid(ux) Bang here....
It's been a pleasant and stable experience so far... only hassle was getting the blasted Broadcrap wireless working on my netbook, but after that, it's been good smile ... way better than my Arch experience, which was riddled with HAL related issues (I don't blame Arch, since it was probably me that got something wrong)
Wish it booted faster, though (it's not slow, but it's no Lucid Lynx)

With regards to looks, my setup's almost identical to my old #! Lite install, right down to the layout of my OBmenu, since I basically just imported all my configs tongue
Like tawan, I'm a screenshot thread terrorist, so it's all there.

Re: Do you Squeeze/Sidbang?

Debian squeeze with OpenBox.  Really love it so far.  The headphone jack on my laptop never worked with Crunch.  Now that I'm running debian, it works again.  I'd really love to see the next version of CrunchBang using Squeeze as it's base.

Possibly. To be honest, it is too early to make any sort of announcement, but my Debian test builds are beginning to take shape. wink

192.168. is a private IP address, no harm there tongue. Now if it was his public then that might be bad.

I think I probably have posted an actual net accessible IP address in the past. The IP address was issued by my mobile broadband provider and was dynamic. I do not know exactly how many addresses they have in their pool, but I thought it might be fun to play Russian roulette with IP addresses. lol

Re: Do you Squeeze/Sidbang?

Also guilty as charged. DTX here, omns. I'll be trying unstable/sid very soon. I do believe this is the way to go for #! but it is up to Philip. smile

Cumprimentos. Regards.

Re: Do you Squeeze/Sidbang?

I'm getting more and more interested in building my very own ''crunchbanged'' system. I think I'll do a base install of Lucid for this…but Debian Sid could be nice to. If I install  ''Sidbang'' will I be able to upgrade all the packages via terminal without breaking my system?

Xmonad is the best way to get things done, fast.

Re: Do you Squeeze/Sidbang?

cbrunos, the sidux manual has a great chapter on how to safely maintain/upgrade a Debian Sid system.

http://manual.sidux.com/en/sys-admin-apt-en.htm

Ignore the sidux-specific stuff (like you won't have a sidux.list obviously if you're not using sidux)

Re: Do you Squeeze/Sidbang?

I am writing this on my #! laptop and just SSH'd into my Debian desktop in order to SCP a screenshot I took yesterday, this one:
http://omploader.org/tM295eg
I didn't use Omns's install script, but installed Squeeze from the netinstall CD with XFCE desktop and added Openbox on top of it. I like it a lot, but I have no complaints about the regular CrunchBang install, either. But it would be nice to see an official DebBang release!

I never use smilies, but there are exceptions that prove the rule wink
