Topic: Broken flash plugin? Not all flash works through Chrome

I access this website every day to follow the...erm... news (it's a satyre): http://www.canalplus.fr/c-humour/pid178 … gnols.html

However as of today the site doesn't work anymore. I actually uninstalled all flash plugins I had before to make sure I had no conflicts and finalized it all by a sudo apt-get update flashplugin-non free, but it seems to have broken something in Chrome

DETAIL:

It doesn't work through Chrome but it DOES work through Firefox. But it's a lot swifter and better through Chrome than firefox... So I'm not sure what's not working there :s

Thanks!

What version of Chrome do you use? If it's the latest dev build then you may have to wait for an update.

In the meantime

Re: Broken flash plugin? Not all flash works through Chrome

I used the version you get through the google website, so it's all working.

I thought I hadn't posted this thread... :s but it works now. No idea what had happened. Sorry!

Re: Broken flash plugin? Not all flash works through Chrome

Hi Guys,

So I am having a very similar issue. My flash seems to be completely broken. It does not work in Chrome or Iceweasel. I am using Crunchbang 10 statler alpha 2 with all of the latest updates installed. I have tried re-installing flash through synaptic several different ways to no avail. I even went to adobe's website to attempt to download from there, and they are telling me flash is installed!? Any ideas?

Re: Broken flash plugin? Not all flash works through Chrome

Can you deinstall your flashplugin-nonfree and try downloading the flash package from the adobe site? Then you can follow the manual installation procedure. Don't they let you download the package?

Re: Broken flash plugin? Not all flash works through Chrome

I've had similar problems--but only on my amd64 setup (no problem here on the i686.) Others on amd64? I know Adobe has stopped giving out their Flash 10 amd64 player....

Doesn't Google Chrome come with Flash too? That's really weird. Are you on a 64bit machine? Cause 64bit Flash has problems sometimes..

Re: Broken flash plugin? Not all flash works through Chrome

Yes I am on 64 bit. I tried uninstalling once more and doing a manual install only to remember that adobe does not provide a 64 bit version. So... i tried using the script provided here

http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/install-f … 64bit.html

This only did not fix the issue, but now anytime I am on a website that has anything flash on it, it lags terribly.

Re: Broken flash plugin? Not all flash works through Chrome

Adobe dropped 64bit flash support for a reason, you know...

Can you try using Gnash? I've never used it myself before, but Wikipedia says

Open source implementations (at least Gnash, see Playback) support 64-bit architectures just as well as 32-bit.

so maybe it's worth giving a try?

EDIT: Oh, here's the full quote, in case it's helpful.

Adobe expects to provide 64-bit versions of its Flash Player for Windows, Macintosh and Linux with an upcoming major release of Adobe Flash Player.[21][22] Users of 64-bit operating systems are currently advised to use 32-bit browsers in order to use the 32-bit plugin.[22][23] The prevalent solution taken by Linux distributions is to use nspluginwrapper as an intermediate layer between browser and plugin.[24] Open source implementations (at least Gnash, see Playback) support 64-bit architectures just as well as 32-bit.

Re: Broken flash plugin? Not all flash works through Chrome

Well I just tried using Gnash and it's respective mozilla plugin. Now I just get an error message when trying to view videos...

Click "Profile" link at the top, then click the Identify link, and there should be a field for your email address.
