Topic: I need help fixing a Nextar media player.

I borked my Nextar player.  It still holds some files, but rather than holding 1GB (its nominal capacity), it only holds 227MB.  I still rather like this player, as it reads tag info and plays tracks in actual album order, so the best solution for me would be to try to fix what I have.  I've tried a couple of other inexpensive media players in a search for a replacement, but apparently they'll only honor track sequence if the mp3 files are synced via Windows software that won't run under Wine.

By the way, the media player broke when I accidentally deleted its config files.  I had to use my roommate's Win7 PC to reformat it to its current 227MB capacity, because it causes Gparted to crash.  It shows up in file managers as a Sigmatel device.

Anyone have any ideas?  If I were able to track down copies of the config files, would that restore the player's capacity?

If no one has any ideas for fixing this old media player, can anyone recommend a good substitute?  I've read some good things about SanDisk, but are there any other brands I should consider?  (Preferably within a $50 budget.)  I've already tried and ruled out Jensen and Philips players.

Cowon makes excellent mp3 players, but they're not within your budget. So for $50, stick with SanDisk.

Try finding a Meizu Mini Player.  They are, IMO, budget and linux friendly iPod knock-offs, and for that matter, iPod killers.  I had a 4GB for a while before it died due to PEBCAK (I dropped it too many times), and it was great.  Only set me back about $80 at the time, and they have 2GB ones for about half the price.

@kmason - It looks like the Meizu SL 2GB might be just what I'm looking for, thanks!  And it would appear that Amazon has them for under $40.  I'll give them a look-see if the 2GB SanDisk player doesn't work out.

@anonymous - "If X works, stick with X."  Always sound advice.  Thank you.
EDIT:  One could take that a bit further and say "Does the Nextar player still meet your needs with the reduced memory?"  Since it still holds 3-4 albums' worth of music, I concede that it does, so it looks like I can hold of on buying another media player for a while.  Take *that*, economy! lol
