Topic: Please help me to get rid of my last QT-app

The last program I still use from my KDE days is Quanta, the HTML-editor.

I am looking for alternatives, GTK-based is a plus.

What I need, and why I do:

I am starting a project involving a lot of XML-markup on an existing text. In Quanta, I just can define my own tags, beyond the HTML-vocabulary, for inclusion in the toolbars. This allows me to load my .xml-file (that has already been pre-formatted with as many tags as are automatically possible, but needs additional manual editing), read through it and mark words or phrases, click my predefined button and have the custom xml-tags I defined opening and closing the marked piece of text.

Are you aware of another editor which can be as easily configured to do this? Since I will be trying to get volunteers to help me doing the markup, suggestions for other operating systems are welcome, too.

Regards,

Strangelove

Take a look at Bluefish, Geany, Screem and even Eclipse/Aptana.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I had looked at Bluefish (in a far earlier Version, it seems) since it is the natural alternative to Quanta. Way back then, I did not find the option for self-defined tags, now they are there - looks very good to me!

I will have a closer look at Geany too, since I like it a lot.

There's also Amaya by W3C: http://www.w3.org/Amaya/

I don't use it, so I don't know if you can achieve what you want.

Re: Please help me to get rid of my last QT-app

come on, QT4 > GTK smile But, I understand everyone has their own opinion on the subject.

I use Seamonkey's built in composer to do all my HTML, now my needs are not nearly as complicated as yours so I am not sure if that is what you want but, I find having an application that does my browsing, composing, mail, and chat is easier than running 4 separate apps.
