Topic: apmd and acpid both needed?

I noticed yesterday that #! and #!-lite install and run both the acpi and apm daemons by default. Is this necessary? Don't they interfere with each other? Could the older apmd be safely uninstalled?

If your computer supports acpi then you can safely disable apmd.

Thanks anonymous, I'll do that. Maybe it'll cut a few milliseconds off my boot time cool

Well in #!09.04.01 you go to system---->Services/Daemons and uncheck the box with Power managment (apmd)

@blackbinary - you could try installing bum or maybe ServiceManager (its for Ubuntu Karmic but might work on Debian too).

Also just a warning, if you install gnome-system-tools on Debian, it has a ****load of Gnome dependencies.
