Topic: [Resolved] Time/date and Menu won't persist on Live USB install

I followed the instructions over at PendriveLinux to set up my Live USB of CrunchBang (with persistent file changes) and it's working extremely well.  In applications, my settings are being saved without any issues, such as Pidgin, Firefox, Gwibber' etc. etc.

However, certain settings are not being retained for some reason - such as the time/date settings and the menu configuration.

For the time date settings, I have installed the NTP server and it is set to update automatically, but never saves the timezone I enter.  If I go to the setting and select the timezone, it corrects the time, but upon reboot, it reverts.

Same with the menu.xml in the OpenBox config.  I make my changes and they are not retained upon reboot.  I even tried editing the file using the sudo command (which is not used in the menu shortcut) and that still doesn't work.

Same again with the autostart.sh - I try enabling the US keyboard mapping command via the link in the preferences menu' and it reverts upon reboot'

What am I missing?  Any help would be appreciated, and will take me one step closer to my perfect install smile

As an update... just tried (again) editing the ~/.config/openbox/autostart.sh but manually through the terminal this time using sudo, and it did not retain changes upon reboot.  Still trying...

Hello SpamWeasel smile

Please see this thread: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … -and-time/

It may help you to solve your issues. Also see this post, I believe it details the menu.xml/autostart.sh issues: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/post/5089/#p5089

Hope it helps smile

Thanks corenominal - that thread was extremely helpful and solved both my menu and time/date issues!
