Re: Crunchbang iPad advertisement..

My Nokia N900 is already running Debian LXDE, so the jump to Mobile #! should not be far away. smile Is there a #! script for Debian maby?

Im no expert, but the packages must be compiled for ARM (since the N900 uses ARM cpu) am I right? Have someone tried to make #! for ARM before?

Oh, and really cool pic khaled!

im sure most stuff in the #! specific repos are scripts and configs anyway, and everything afaik in the debian repos in arm compiled too.
thee isn't an install script but you could essentially get #! usinging the correct configs, and installing all the bits by hand

Re: Crunchbang iPad advertisement..

i'd setup a debian minimal, hopefully the wireless works (i guess it does if your running LXDE), or maybe a usb or sd card would work too, but then just transfer the scripts and whatnot over to the minimal install.

just call me...

Make sure you spell it right next time, though. Doh! tongue

The "iPad" looks paper-thin.

Re: Crunchbang iPad advertisement..

Is it even possible to boot an iPad into a "foreign" OS from another storage device?  I thought I read that it doesn't have a USB port.  Apparently it does come with a dock-to-USB cable, but that appears to be used to connect the iPad to a hub on a real computer.

Perhaps the system can be installed to the iPad from the other computer, if it shows up as a storage device.

while ( ! ( succeed = try() ) );

In my experience with iPods and iPhones, Apple does everything they can to prevent that from happening lol.

For a Linux tablet, I think there are already several choices out there. I think the !Pad is just a fun exercise.

Re: Crunchbang iPad advertisement..

^ Yeah, but if someone already blew all that money on an iPad, might's well try to make it useful.  Who knows, maybe someone will even find a way to dual-boot so they can keep their iPad "apps". roll  (Something tells me games like Virtual Surgeon, for example, would run better on an iPad than it would in a Debian-based system, since the web version is flash-based.)

while ( ! ( succeed = try() ) );

Re: Crunchbang iPad advertisement..

@anonymous. It's the new !Pad version! big_smile

Anyway, Apple is really closing on their products, I mean no innovation and over-expensive products. I'd rather stick with Linux, with little help from Microsoft!

Sigh what is it with tablets and blatently false hyperbole?
http://wetab.mobi/ (emphasis preserved)

Because you can do anything with it

Hmm so i can fly to the moon wearing a pink tutu with it ?

Because it sets you free

Ports, file formats and flash, doth not freedom make.

Because you will experience news like never before

Sounds fair enough until they expain this 'new' experience...

you will experience all your favorite journals and newspapers as they appear in print

Great so you can experience 'news like youve never experienced before'(tm), if youve never read a newspaper before.

My own personal favourite is the headline:

We‘ch out and touch faith

I assume we are supposed to draw from this that the 'WeTab' is our own 'Personal Jesus', decended from the heavens to save us, to absolve us of our sins, to cleanse our souls, to turn water into wine... etc.

Its almost worse than Apple claiming the ipad in "magical", that I "already know how to use it", oh and that "theres no wrong way" (not what they said about holding the iphone).
