One option might be to leave the face of the clock blank, just keeping the color and the frame, then find a clock widget and position it on the desktop over the clock position. I've seen people make custom wallpapers for the sole purpose of having a pretty placement spot for their conky and widgets tongue

Have to let me know if you find a solution/if this works.

Hey Stopie, I know... Maybe I will look for a nice little widget, sooner or later, but now the clock's broken because some stupid hooligan stoned it (see my edit's of the previous post). Will have to wait.

P.S. Suggestions for the clock widget are welcome. Cairo-clock might work, but it draws all kinds of Compiz stuff with it (I tried it on my laptop, running Openbox on top of Ubuntu).

I'm happier now with my dual screen setup - the jazzy orange/black wallpaper made my eyes ache and the one below is more restful anf fits better with the CrunchBang dark theme. Just added a simple Conky bottom left, and spanned my taskbar across the two screens.

lol

It actually takes some getting used to, plus I had a problem balancing the colour between the two screens. the one on the left is much older and not as vibrant as the one on the right, so I've had to tone things down a bit on the newer monitor to get the colours matching. You really noticed the difference if a window was sat across the centre, sitting half on one side, half on the other.

Tweaking the colour/contrast etc on the newer screen has left some sites looking a bit weird but I can live with it for now. I've been selling some stuff on ebay and saving my pennies to get a new monitor, at which point the older one will go back to work with my test machine (which is currently using an even older but still very good CRT).

Helsinki Metro Desktop

Neil Young's song T-Bone looks extraordinary in NCMPCPP — whoever submitted the lyrics to the database did a clever job with the even-line layout... (I'm not saying it looks pretty, though... But it's fun.)

Very very nice my friend.  You finally got that desktop whipped in to one lovely piece, very unique.

I love the clock font however I don't think it works so well for your date font.  Perhaps, if you feel the same way, you might find a more fitting font for the date?  Other than that nitpick, I love your desktop.

Re: #! CrunchBang Linux Desktop Screenshots

I finely took to the plunge and replaced my ubuntu install with #!, and am really liking it so far.  The wallpaper background is a picture I took on my road trip last week. It's of Eisenhower tunnel just west of Denver, Colorado USA.  Apparently it is the highest car tunnel in the world.

Here's my first attempt at a custom conky config.  I did have some trouble tho.  I was getting some truncating at the bottom.  I tried increasing the text buffer size but that didn't work, so I decreased the font size.  Not exactly what I wanted.  What I'm I doing wrong?

Thank you kBang! You're right about the font: it looks good in larger sizes but for the date it does not work. How about replacing Clubland (that's the clock font) with Ozone (both from dafont.com)... like this.

There is a certain information overload on my desktop. As a pastime, you can count the different ways of displaying what MPD is playing.

P.S. A revision

P.P.S. And one more time...

P.P.P.S. I have been replacing too big images (from tinypic[sic!], which does not provide thumbnail URL:s by default — sorry for my laziness!) with links...

You mean the barcode one? Strange, I'm still seeing it.

Your metro paper is starting to grow on me.  How did you get the lyrics thing so dang tall in post 686?  My conky seems to stop halfway down and starts to cut off text.

I have more photos from my vacation that I think will make good wallpaper but I haven't had time to do the image editing. sad  Maybe this weekend.

Now it has re-appeared for me, too.

jdugan wrote:

This time it's not Conky but NCMPCPP running in the Tilda terminal. I have used also Lyricsdownloader in Conky, but it does not work perfectly in #!.  Somehow the window size is not changed according to line length as it should be (yes, I have set the maximum_width correctly, etc.). I'm saying "in CrunchBang" because I have used the same configuration files also in an Openbox setup running on top of the "regular" Ubuntu, with no such problems.

So there seems to be an issue with Conky in CrunchBang: also in my present left-hand "basic" Conky window, the bottom lines of the MPD part are occasionally cut off, after I start MPD manually... This is a bit complicated, and it is also surprising that (or if) the issue occurs only with CrunchBang and, as it seems, not generally with Openbox. Might be a reason for a bug report?

P.S. (a few minute later): I think it was at this forum that someone just complained that Conky gets "truncated" towards the bottom... P.P.S. Silly me! It was in your post #687, Jdugan! So I don't think you did anything wrong, but we seem to have a bug in our hands...?
