In a terminal:

sudo apt-get install cowsay

then again in a terminal:

cowsay whatever you want the cow to say

^^ My tip would be to buy him either a Wii, PS3, or XBox and a TV of his own.  That way he can play games to his heart's content AND have #! too   It's a win/win situation! (Though not for your wallet/bank balance -eek!)

The biggest difference swj is it doesn't have the right click configurability of lxpanel, so no adding applets etc. It's all done in the config file.

Thanks omns, I'm still playing with my Conky to get it just right - maybe get a bit more spacing into it, and I really like that cool weather monitor some of you guys are using but it seems mighty complicated to set up!

Ah!  Didn't even realize that it's Vladstudio!  Amazing stuff here -- the whale/island wallpaper was my default for a long, long time...
