Topic: "ACYL" icon theme doesn't replace all icons

After looking though the July screenshot thread, I tried out the Any Color You Like icon theme.
A lot of icons changed, but some programs still use their old icons in the tint2 tray, even though ACYL contains new icons for said programs (for example Terminator, Gimp, Chromium, Geany and more).

I run a pretty default statler alpha2.

I tried to manually exchange the icons in /usr/share/pixmaps but that didn't help. Any suggestions? Thanks!

That is a damn cool script!!! Can make your desktop look like you thought about it!! Pity that a lotta' icons is missing though - makes it look unprofessional.

Re: "ACYL" icon theme doesn't replace all icons

@barc:  The icons in the tint2 tray won't change until after you restart X.

while ( ! ( succeed = try() ) );

Re: "ACYL" icon theme doesn't replace all icons

@pvsage: I restarted X a couple of times now, sadly nothing changed.

@steen: the icons I mentioned are included but somehow not used. I don't understand why. Any help?

Re: "ACYL" icon theme doesn't replace all icons

most application specific icons get stored in /usr/share/application
you'll probably need to copy over the correct icon to there, or check the man page, quite a few apps have options to define a different icon

Re: "ACYL" icon theme doesn't replace all icons

@barc: For some weird reason there are a lotta' symlimkicons in /.icons/ACYL_Icon_Theme_0.8.2/scalable/apps which links to /.icons/ACYL_Icon_Theme_0.8.2/scalable/real_icons/apps - but in this last directory there are a lotta' icons "missing". I have no idea why...

Re: "ACYL" icon theme doesn't replace all icons

I just checked and found icons for Gimp, Geany and Chromium in the .../real_icons/apps directory.

The funny thing is, that those custom icons also appear in /usr/share/application, so my applications seem to get their icons from somewhere else.

I even edited the dropbox and claws-mail tray icons to be fully black. I would (almost) die for black application icons in tint2!

Could it be, that those applications have problems with scalable *.svg icons?

Re: "ACYL" icon theme doesn't replace all icons

Sorry, I was just thinking about the Network Manager and Volume Icon icons.

There are a few applications (xfce4-power-manager, Volwheel, Terminator, Iceweasel/Firefox) which insist on using their own icons instead of the ones set for the system.  It looks like benj1's suggestion will work for Iceweasel, but I can't find where Terminator keeps its icon.

while ( ! ( succeed = try() ) );

Re: "ACYL" icon theme doesn't replace all icons

Thanks for trying to help me, but benj1's suggestion isn't working for Iceweasel, because the icon in /usr/share/applications is the correct, black one while the old, blue one is displayed in tint2.

I can't be the only one who tries to change the icon theme in statler 64-bit? the ALLBLACK icons have the same problem. They provide icons that are not used.

I just found THIS, which explaines how to edit the Terminator icon. I'll try it out later, but what are they thinking, using such an ugly icon an making it almost impossible to change it? mad

Here are some instructions for Firefox/Iceweasel:

Re: "ACYL" icon theme doesn't replace all icons

So, it's common that an icon theme changes only half the icons, even though it comes with icons for way more programs? Just curious, but if I remember correctly, I was more successfull in the past?

Re: "ACYL" icon theme doesn't replace all icons

It has to do with the individual programs, not the icon theme. Programs have their icons in different places and some may even have their icons hard-coded.

Re: "ACYL" icon theme doesn't replace all icons

Thanks a lot, guess I'm kinda surprised running into such difficulties trying to do things "right".
I ran into THIS post from a fellow crunchbang user with the same problem. It seems in this thread that the reason might be openbox.
Abiword is one of the few applications that actually changed their icon on my system.
