Topic: Network Manager - help?

Hi,

I'm trying to connect to a laptop (Windows 7) via a wired modem and cannot figure out how to do this...

The Network Manager is supposed to simplify things but there is a lack of simple instructions (yes, I've been to the home page).

Can anybody give a step-by-step instruction in plain English?

Thanks

Re: Network Manager - help?

When you say modem, are you talking about the old-school MOdulate/DEModulate hardware used to communicate over analog phone lines?  First of all, you also need a modem at the other end for it to talk to; then you'd need to disable the dialing protocol (assuming the two modems are conencted directly to one another without a powered phone line)...

If you're talking about connecting two networking ports with Cat5 cable, that's a horse of a different color, and should be much easier.

while ( ! ( succeed = try() ) );

Re: Network Manager - help?

Sorry, I didn't mean to say modem!

I should have said a "wired router"

Re: Network Manager - help?

Well, having spent a couple of days going around in circles and getting nowhere, I looked again at the settings in the Network Manager and a few other places - then suddenly - EVERYTHING WORKED!

and I have NO IDEA WHY.

Which means if I had to do it all again, I wouldn't know where to start. Some simple instructions or guidelines would be REALLY helpful.

Re: Network Manager - help?

Please be more precise: you have a wired router (so no wirelsess), to which two pcs (a #! one and a windows one) are connected via ethernet and you want to access from #! to Win?

Re: Network Manager - help?

Perhaps my previous post wasn't very clear -

my wired network connection via a router between #! and windows7 is now working properly

but I have no idea how it was achieved.

Thanks anyway...
